President of the United States

The Honorable Joe Biden

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W.

Washington DC, 20500

Dear President Biden:

I am not sure whether to laugh, cry, or pour three fingers of bourbon whisky? Just checked my Charles Schwab Account - Hmm! On January 4, 2022 was at its highest. But I look today June 13, 2022, there is a paper loss of $27,663.82 or $4,610.63 average per month. You have said we have the strongest economy in "the world, in the world, in the world". If that is true how do explain the above and the tremendous paper loss I have experienced? How can you with surety blame Putin and COVID-19? I think more to the point it was knuckleheaded policies by your Administration. But what do I know, I'm just an Iowa Farm Boy?

Let me explain I am in my 20th year of retirement; I will celebrate my 81st birthday in July. I have a small Pension, Social Security, an IRA, and farm ground that I own and receive rental payments. So I have income, but it seems to be at greater and greater risk as time goes by mainly, in my opinion, due to your horrible economic and foreign policies. You see, I have seen this movie before - this is my triple feature. Starting with the farm crisis of the 80's ( I barely held on to my farm), then the housing crisis of 07-08 where I lost one half of my IRA = $400,000 and now your bungling of the economy; whenever Government interferes in business the outcome has always had a dramatic negative on my economic health.

The majority of my retirement income is from farm rental. We have a good tenant. He is an excellent Farmer and a very good manager of money and resources. He treats my land like it is his, I couldn't ask any more. But his economic health is in jeopardy. This week on one of the news programs they interviewed a dairy farmer - not sure if it was Wisconsin or Michigan. But, he was talking about his sharp rise in input costs for his dairy operation. An example, one of his tractors that pulls a feeder used to fill the feed bunks for the cattle burns ten gallons of diesel fuel an hour. For many farmers a ten hour day is normal, that means at $5.28 per gallon, his fuel cost is $528.00 per day. But that's not the saddest story I've heard - a trucker whose normal fill was $600 per day is now $1,200. Another farmer's fertilizer cost on 640 acres was $40,000 is now $124,000 (the macronutrients are Nitrogen(NH3, Phosphorus(P2-O5, and Potassium(K2-O)) -[That is of course if I remember my Chemistry and Agronomy from ISU correctly.) The question is where do we get these chemicals? {NH3 is a byproduct of natural gas production - The rest are mainly imports -many from Russia)] Your war against hydrocarbons is costing the working people of this country big time. These high costs of doing business are not sustainable. But, the worst thing possible is if you do not pivot on your foreign and domestic policies our working class will end up in poverty. You need to disavow the Green New Deal. We do not need to deplete our strategic oil reserve, buy oil from Russia, Iran, or Venezuela. All the hydrocarbon energy we need for the next 200-500 years is under our feet and found in the underground of our Canadian neighbor.

President Clinton was smart enough to pivot in '94, you have a chance to do the same, but no one in your cabinet has the intelligence to advise you

1. Finish the wall on our Southern border

2. Grant oil drillers permits to begin the find

3. Complete the Keystone XL pipeline [It will be complete in 8 months]

4. Recover Natural Gas wherever it can be found and

5. Start the permit process to build Modular Nuclear Reactors.

6. Wind and solar energy are expensive and can not be relied on 100%

The other question at life's end where do we put the remains? Landfills? They are not degradable. The energy crisis will be over in one year if you do this; if not then a recession followed by depression is in the future.

You have suckled the teat of government for four decades now going on the fifth and it seems you have learned nothing as to how to govern. You have never held a real job - ever. You have been able to fool many, but this Iowa farm boy, now near his December, is not fooled. You are a disgrace to those like me who wore the U. S. on the collar and the Eagle on their hat (USAF Uniform). We would have sacrificed all, but it was you and those like you that disgraced us in Vietnam and now Kabul and Bagram Afghanistan: Shame on you.

It pains me to say this, but you are the biggest mistake this electorate has made since Jimmy Carter. The midterms will be devastating for Democrats. It is my hope that the progressive ideology will be defeated this November as well. We have been heading for Marxism/Communism for some time now. I hope it dies a tragic death as well. Freedom!!!, we fought a tragic war - called the Revolution to free ourselves from the U.K. Monarchy won and later adopted a Constitution that has stood the test. And to this day is an extraordinary example of how self-rule can work - if only we observe it.

Many had great hopes for you, but unfortunately you have failed miserably. My paper loss is only a pimple of what is to come unless you divorce yourself from the so-called "Progressives" - read Marxists.

May God restore your cognitive skills. I pray this happens - you are losing the trust of your own party. I also pray for your good health - for having Kamala in charge would be worse than now. You could not have picked a worse number two? And, I still need the bourbon - maybe two.

I hope for God's grace on you and our country, Amen

Sincerely yours,

John Stiegelmeyer

Carolyn Kearns June 20, 2022, 1:11 pm Good job John! You hit the nail on the head!! Our retirement went way down also.
Mary Becker Root June 20, 2022, 1:42 pm Great letter. You truly hit the nail on the head! This country is going to heck and we need to do something about it! Vote, Vote, Vote
Tom Boeckmann June 20, 2022, 1:42 pm Amen!
Teddi Newton June 20, 2022, 2:43 pm Well said, John!!!
Randy Braden June 20, 2022, 4:42 pm Just wondered if John is ever going to be critical of the last president. The January 6 hearing points directly to President Trump and you’ve said nothing. If that was Obama or Biden you would be asking for shackles! What gives?
Rick Hsppel June 20, 2022, 4:56 pm Absolutely Right!
Anthony Bopp June 20, 2022, 5:54 pm "no one in your cabinet has the intelligence to advise you"
You misspelled "ignorance"
judy trygstad June 20, 2022, 6:51 pm John,
I really wish you would keep your editorials shorter. Usually they end with a very mean, vindictive tone to personally attack someone. I don't think you would appreciate that rhetoric toward yourself and I don't appreciate reading it in your printed material. Please stop doing this!
John Stiegelmeyer June 20, 2022, 7:14 pm Randy ---- never dissappoints.

I did not lose money or retirement income under Trumps administration. In fact after the election until inauguration, I gained big bucks - due to enthusiasm for a new deal. My great friend now retired gained $100,000 in her IRA that same period. Top that Randy.
Gerald Bates June 21, 2022, 12:18 am Thank you John. Very well put.
Betty Thorsvig June 21, 2022, 12:20 am Oh I wish this letter WOULD reach the President. BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! 100% Accurate and must be done or your predictions will come true.
Norma Gould June 21, 2022, 4:02 pm To the people giving praise to John for what he wrote, are you watching the hearings? Is this what you want for our country. Have you listened to all of trump's lies?

Have you heard the big oil exec's brag that the high prices are because of the government working on climate change? In other words they don't care about the planet we live on as long as we buy their gas. It sounds like they are taking revenge but who are you blaming for gas prices?

After what trump and the republicans did on Jan 6th how can you still support that?

Did any of you listen to the testimony of Rep. Rusty Bowers of Arizona to hear what trump expected of him but he refused because it was illegal?

Did you listen to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss of Georgia testify. They are the two Georgia election workers who were harassed and Ruby was forced to leave her home for 2 months because of the trump cult harassing them so much that to this day Shaye is afraid to go to the grocery store. It was the FBI who asked Ruby to leave her home because she wasn't safe. They harassed this families grandmother by entering her home as soon as she answered their knock. Ruby asked "Do you know how it feels to have the president of the United States target you.?" trump repeated Ruby's name 18 times and putting a target on her back as an election worker who had committed fraud which was not true. Should a citizen of the United States have to ask that question? I don't think so.

If you are not watching the hearings, you are afraid of the truth. Do you really want to live under a dictatorship.? That is the direction trump wanted to take us, just like his friend Putin. Think about the rights the people of Russia have and know that this is what trump wants. You know how much trumps hates the media. That is because they continue to tell the truth about him. Remember he could possibly be running again in 2024 and if he does and he doesn't win we will go through all of this again. Although since republicans in the red states are inserting trump followers in key positions so that during the next election when the republican candidate says find me some votes they will just do it. We could become a country wit no rule of law.

trump doesn't care about this country or the people, he only cares about winning. That is because of the way he was raised by his Dad. Never admit you are wrong, don't take credit for things that are bad and do take credit for things that are good even if you are not the one who did them, and never apologize. That fits trump exactly.

Paula Happel June 22, 2022, 9:26 am Amen. If everyone would read just one of Sowell’s books, one of Shelby Steele’s, and The Devil and Karl Marx by Paul Kengor, they might see what is happening to us and where we are headed.
John Stiegelmeyer June 22, 2022, 11:18 pm Judy:
You are a dear.
Have you read the criticism I get from the trio? There is nothing more mean-spirited than them. They are vicious, mean-spirited, intolerant and for the most part WRONG. They are incapable of learning anything outside of the progressive narrative. I write from the heart. What I see out my windshield is what I see happening to us as a people, and it is not good. The working class has been swept up under the bus. The progressives don't care about us who did not attend ivy league schools. We who have hard hands and sore backs don't count.

Ms. Gould
I did not write anything about what you seem to attribute to my article. There should be no doubt, President Biden, in wrong on all policies his administration puts forward. My small Schwab account has a paper loss of NORTH of 20% on June the 13th - more as of this date --- that is my future!- Whatever you think of the TRUMP my balance sheet prospered - my wealth increased - now it seems lost forever. As I have said I have seen this movie before. The ending is going to be much worse than what I have experienced before - unless Joe Biden PIVOTS as Clinton wisely did in '94. Thanks to all for your comments.
Anthony Bopp June 23, 2022, 4:16 pm Trump did everything he could to make a strong economy weak, and it worked just in time for him to leave office so that those who don't understand how economics works could blame it on the current president.

The economy was always going to be weak in the last couple of years thanks to Putin's war and Trump's insistence that COVID is fake news. We've now lost over 1 million people to this disease and many are still refusing to accept the reality of COVID just as they refuse to accept the reality of the disaster Trump caused to our economy.

But we could have been in so much stronger of an economic position if Trump had only taken COVID seriously. Millions of lives lost, billions of dollars lost, because one man yelled "Fake news!"
Norma Riha June 24, 2022, 4:22 pm Obviously John you have not been listening to the January 6th hearings. I am appalled that this was the president of the United States our president.
Dave Coots June 27, 2022, 5:38 pm Someone mentioned a million people died from covid and that Trump didn't take the disease seriously. Who got the FastTrack going on the jab? Maybe a million people died WITH covid, but maybe half of that number died FROM covid.FOLLOW THE MONEY.
