Coach Hadachek honored the 2017 Union football captains: Carter Brehm, Koby Alpers, Jace Glenn and Troy Hanus. Union's football team gathered for one final time in 2017 to celebrate the successes of the season, award players for a variety of achievements, and to thank the many people who helped as Union returned to the UNI-Dome as one of the four final teams in Class 2A.

A dozen Vinton-Shellsburg wrestlers scored points for the Vikings during Satuday's Guilford Invitational Tournament in Monticello, as VS brought home the 1st place plaque.

Taylor Berry led the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes to a win in their first bowling contest of the season Friday in Independence, repeating a feat she accomplished early last season: Rolling a higher score than all of her female opponents as well as all of the boys.

Justin Bartz scored 2 of his team-leading 16 on this play early vs. W Dubuque. For one half, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings played evenly with the much taller Western Dubuque opponents, and even led at half-time.

Brock Radeke pins his Decorah opponent Tuesday at Union. Union defeated Vinton-Shellsburg but lost to Decorah, which also defeated VS in a double-dual at Union on Tuesday.

While the VS Vikette basketball team had its first game last week, tonight is the first contest for the VS boys basketball team, wrestlers and the boys swim team.

At the end of a very successful 2017, Vinton-Shellsburg senior Cole Overton is looking forward to continuing his athletic career in 2018, first in his final year of high school and then at the next level.

Exactly one year after putting on a Clarke College t-shirt and sitting with his parents and coaches and officially signing to attend college and bowl at Clarke, Jordan Schoettmer joined his team in making the journey from Dubuque to Cedar Rapids, where he competed against more than 130 bowlers from seven college teams, including Iowa and Mount Mercy, in the annual Five Seasons Classic.
