Vinton Country Club Men's Tournament

The Vinton CountryClub Men's Tournament was held this past Sunday, August 20th.
Roger Murray survived an exciting 4 hole playoff over Mark Mossman to earn the men's club championship. Murray and Mossman carded 4 over par 74's while defending champion Matt Martin was one stroke back at 75.
A steady light rain throughout the first half of the tournament and some very difficult pin placements made scoring difficult for most of the golfers. VS Vikings 2017 football schedule
The VS Vikings only play four home games this year, but three of the away games are against our district's nearest neighbors, Center Point-Urbana, Benton Community and Independence.
The action starts Friday, at CPU.

Viking seniors Struve, Will Edwards end careers with All-Star game win
The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) sponsors the All-Star Series which is held Aug. 3rd-6th in Des Moines. Teams are: Large Schools East, Large Schools West, Small Schools East and Small Schools West. A coaching staff picks the top 16 players from half the state to determine the teams. Small Schools East is comprised of the top 16 players from Class 3A, 2A, and 1A players from the eastern half of the State. 2017 UNION ALUMNI WIN THE BIG MAN COMPETITION

After finishing the regular season ranked third in Class 3A, the Vinton-Shellsburg Viking baseball team has seen many of its players earning post-season honors.
The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association has named its All-District teams.
Vikings recognized in the Northeast District include First Team honorees Nate Struve (pitcher), Will Edwards (catcher) and Tanner Davis (infield).
2017 Junior Gold Bowling Championships
The 2017 Junior Gold Bowling Championships were held in Cleveland Ohio with 1417 young men (U20) competing. Each youth bowler bowl four games on four different sport shot patterns. The competition started with two days of practices, which enabled each bowler to get an idea of how they should bowl on each sport pattern. These young men were bowling against other men from all over the United States and Puerto Rico. Vikings defeat S. Tama; to play Benton tonight for District Championship

Last season, the Vinton-Shellsburg baseball team won two of the three straight games necessary to advance to the State tournament, losing 6-5 at DeWitt Central in the Sub-State game.
This season, the Class 3A 3rd-ranked team has won its first game and will play Benton Community tonight for the District 11 title. Vikings wrap up best regular season in school history; prepare for Districts
The Vinton-Shellsburg baseball team lost by two in its regular season finale, but finished the season with the best record in school history, says Coach Jim Struve, who offered the following game summary:
Vikings lose 4-6 at Waverly. Game was tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 6th inning when Waverly with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd hit an inside the park homerun to go ahead 6-3.
Parents's Night: Vikings win, 9-2 over Charles City
After introducing and thanking their parents for their support all season and throughout their baseball careers, the Vinton-Shellsburg baseball team wrapped up its home regular season with a 9-2 win.
Coach Jim Struve offered the following game summary:
The Vikings took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, but gave up 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning on a couple errors.
Big week for Viking baseball: WaMac West Champs plan Parents Night, prepare for post-season on home field
After celebrating winning the WaMaC West Division on Friday with a split at No. 5 Marion, the 3rd-ranked Class 3A Vinton-Shellsburg Viking baseball team wraps up its regular season with a home non-conference game vs. Charles City tonight and a game at Waverly-Shell Rock on Tuesday. The Vikings hope to fill the local stands tonight for Parents Night, when they will honor their moms and dads for their support throughout this season, as well as their entire baseball careers.
