8th grade football players sign HS Letters of Intent

Although the first games of the 2017 high school football season are still more than three months away, the 8th graders who plan to play for the VSHS freshman team have already begun the process of becoming introduced to Viking coaches and the program.

Jordan Yessak, the Vinton native who finished his career running at Dunkerton High School (where his father Jason was a coach, teacher and AD before taking a similar job in Keokuk) ended his high school track career at the State meet.

Freshman Lillie Lamont's 87 led the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes golf team to a second place finish at the Regional final in Williamsburg on Monday. That 2nd place showing qualifies the Vikettes for the State Meet next week.

Cole Smith carries the baton in the 4 x 800 event for the Vikings at State. Will Edwards returned to State with the shuttle hurdle relay team. After winning the District Track meet and hoping for a repeat of last year's success at the State Track Meet, where they brought home the Runner-Up banner, the VS Vikings discovered it "just wasn't our weekend" in Des Moines, said Coach Aric Chvala.

Vikings finish 3rd at sectionals; Cummings qualifies for Districts

The Viking were at Maquoketa Country Club where they shot the best round of the year and finished third. Benton Community was the sectional champion carding 300 with Central DeWitt finishing second with 310.
