Stormin’ Vikes Split with State Power Linn-Mar and Waterloo

The Vinton Shellsburg - CPU "Stormin" Vikings opened their season last night with a strong performance showing some great potential for yet another solid year. Top 5 team in the state Linn-Mar showed up with all 48 swimmers and dominated the meet as expected. But the VS/CPU squad had some strong swims and managed a 93-67 victory over the Waterloo consolidated team.

VSHS Wrestling Cheer Junior Clinic

The Vinton-Shellsburg Wrestling Cheerleaders are gearing up for an exciting season supporting both the boys and girls Varsity wrestling teams and invite your child to join us. We had so much fun last year that we're again holding a Junior Cheer Clinic. All K -8 grade guys and gals are encouraged to come help the cheerleaders support the teams by participating in the junior cheer clinic.

Williamsburg and Muscatine Swim Meets

Muscatine swim meet 10/26: Senior Captain Mac Goodell heads for the wall in the 100 Butterfly in which she took second place. HOME MEET 10/19 vs. WilliamsburgWith the Braille School pool only being 20 yards, not the regulation 25 yards, the meet doesn't count in our regular season. Williamsburg comes anyway for a meet that we enjoy mixing up a bit. The captains of both teams got to set the entry lineup, allowing girls to swim different events than they typically swim in season.

Nathan's Miles Glow Run - Reminder it's THIS Saturday, October 28

This Saturday, October 28, is the 3rd Annual Nathan's Miles Glow Fun Run 5K!!!This is a great, affordable family event. Last year there were over 200 participants and Nathan's Miles Foundation was able to give TWO $2,000 scholarships to two graduating seniors from Vinton-Shellsburg through registrations and generous donations!!There will be a Kids Glow Run at 6:15 pm, and then the 5K begins at 7:00 pm.

Girls HS Swimming @ Decorah - Conference Meet 10/14/23

Final results attached.Photo by Stacy Stillions: Senior VS swimmer Mac Goodell swimming her 100 Butterfly, in which she finished 10th overall at the North Central Swim Conference meet in Decorah October 14.The North Central Swim Conference consists of 9 girls swim teams across the eastern side of Iowa. It's full of strong swimmers and solid teams from smaller schools, all of whom have cooperative agreements to combine district athletics to form one girls swim team (like Vinton-Shellsburg does with Center Point-Urbana).

Vinton Parks & Rec Announces New Rules for Facility Use

Matt Boggess, Director of the Vinton Parks and Recreation released a statement announcing new rules for participation and consequences in the use of the facilities. Facilities where the new rules apply include the department's three locations the skating rink, pool and recreation center. The new policies will help staff to better manage all of the patrons of the facilities.

Girls Swimming @ Williamsburg 10/9

Brie Carolan swimming her 100 Backstroke Girls swimming was at Williamsburg for an invitational last night, and the Stormin' Vikettes came away with 3rd place overall. The girls had some good times, several setting new PR's. Olivia Schminke had a great night - cutting almost 4 seconds off her previous best time in the 200 IM to take home 1st place. She was also a part of 3 relays that all took home top 3 hardware.

Girls Swim at Oskaloosa - Results 10/5/23

Top individual finishes in Oskaloosa on Wednesday evening, were Tori Elwick (2nd place in 50 Free) and Olivia Schminke (3rd in 100 Breaststroke). Our A relays placed well. The Medley Relay squeezed in for 3rd place by .7 seconds. The 200 Freestyle Relay took second, and Olivia Schminke had her fastest 100 split of the season to anchor the 400 Freestyle Relay to an exciting second-place finish, touching out third place by .

Iowa Speedway to host NASCAR Cup Series race in 2024
