Motorsports fun for everyone at this week’s Benton County Fair
The 2024 Benton County Fair is ready to welcome the masses this week.If you’re a car or motorsports enthusiast, it’ll be well worth the trip to the Benton County Fairgrounds June 20-22. The second annual car show will kick things off Thursday, June 20, in Vinton. Held in front of the grandstand, individuals are invited to show off their cars, trucks, bikes or race cars for a small registration fee of $15.
Mallicoat motors to IMCA Modified checkers at Benton County Speedway
Izac Mallicoat’s first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win came at the Clash on the Coast in Florida back in March. His second came a little closer to home. The second-year Modified driver started 10th, but quickly found his way into contention and eventually victory lane Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Luke Bird raced into the early lead of the Wright Way Trailers 20-lapper.
Speedway Illustrated, Croell Inc. Night this Sunday at Benton County Speedway
There will be a little of something for everyone this Sunday, June 16 at Benton County Speedway during Speedway Illustrated, Croell Inc. Night at The Bullring. Speedway Illustrated publisher Karl Fredrickson will be on-hand to gather photos and information for an upcoming article and will also be handling flagman duties for the evening’s program.

Lil Racer Car Club activities at the Bullring
Many thanks to the 46 Lil Racers who registered at the Lil Racer Clubhouse this past Sunday night at the Benton County Speedway. Coloring pictures for the week were #98 of Jacob Snyder and the T23 of Tony Olson. * prizes were given away.Our, “Lil Racer of the Week," winner was Loralei Godkin of Cedar Rapids. She took home the BIG trophy and a coupon good for a FREE one topping small pizza from The Pizza Place of Center Point, sponsor of this event.
PRO Late Model Tour to join Super Sunday at The Bullring
The third appearance of the PRO Late Model Tour will make for the third Super Sunday event of the season this Sunday at Benton County Speedway. The Late Model tour will accompany the IMCA Weekly Racing divisions Sunday, June 9 in Vinton. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Wright Way Trailers, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by iHeart Radio and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts will continue their weekly points battles on the quarter-mile Bullring.
Fitz, Fisher fast in victories at Benton County Speedway
Some nights you’re just fast. Trevor Fitz and Joren Fisher proved that Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Fitz dominated much of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Wright Way Trailers and Fisher wasted little time making it to the front of the main event for IMCA Hobby Stocks presented by iHeart Radio. In the Modified 20-lapper, Fitz pulled away at the drop of the green and built a lead in excess of four seconds before the caution flag waved just shy of midway.
Weekly racing, candy dash on tap this Sunday at Benton County Speedway
Race night will be a little sweeter this Sunday at Benton County Speedway. Along with the IMCA Weekly Racing program, the annual candy dash will be held on the front stretch during intermission Sunday, June 2. The candy dash, which established a new Guinness World Record just a couple years ago, is always popular for the younger race fans in attendance.
Girls Wrestling Moves to Two Classes For 2024-2025 Season
At its May meeting, the Board of Directors of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union approved the move to two classes for the 2024-25 girls’ wrestling season.The move will place the 64 largest wrestling schools into Class 2A, with the remaining schools competing in Class 1A. Wrestlers will compete to qualify for the state tournament at regional meets across the state on Friday January 31, 2025.
