Sports : Three in a row: Matt Martin wins Men's Championship event at Country Club

Matt Martin won the VCC Men's Championship over Shawn Voss, Saturday.

The 2016 Vinton Country Club Men’s Championship was held Sunday, August 21, and Matt Martin won his 3rd straight championship in a tight battle with Shawn Voss. Martin was fueled by back to back birdies on 13 and 14 to help propel him to the title. Voss started his day with a birdie and ended with a birdie to finish 1 over par, forcing Martin to par the last two holes for an even par 70 and a one stroke win. Shawn Voss won the handicap championship by two strokes over Tom Lindauer.

Next up is the Cedar Valley Ryder Cup that is being hosted this year by the Vinton Country Club on Sunday, August 28th starting at 9am. It will be a full day of Ryder Cup golf with Belle Plaine, Dysart, La Porte City, Shellsburg, Van Horne and Vinton battling for the title. The Vinton Country Club is Celebrating its 100 year anniversary this year as a club.
