Serving Buffet from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, Sunday thru Friday. Everyone is WELCOME! Suggested contribution for individuals 60 years old or older, and their accompanying spouse (regardless of age) is $3.25 for the meal. Individuals who are not yet 60 are WELCOME but need to pay $4.25 directly to the site manager for their meal. If you are just coming for the activity, the suggested contribution is $1.

From 'ick' to making business history: Iowa Cricket Farmer

The cricket industry in Benton County has never been better – and soon insects grown in Keystone may find their way to eating establishments in Iowa and beyond. In the past few weeks, TV stations have featured the local insects and the trio who raises them; Governor Terry Branstad heard about the business during his Benton County breakfast meeting last week; representatives from the Iowa State Extension office visited the cricket farm on Tuesday, and asked many questions.

Walton graduates from PDP Program

Steve Cook-Regional Sales Manager, Tressa Walton, Mike Summers, and Bridget Johnson On Thursday, June 23 Tressa Walton was one of 23 to graduate from the Producer Development Program ran by Polestar and facilitated at West Bend.  Walton was one of the selected participants from across the Midwest to participate in the program beginning in February.   Tressa is employed at Wilson-Hite Insurance and is licensed to sell health, life, personal & commercial lines.

Summer Changes at Vinton Unlimited

To kick off the summer, we welcomed Nick Hyland into the office as our Intern. I am excited to have Nick in the office as he will offer a fresh, young, new perspective on events and has already offered some great ideas. Please note Nick can be reached at vintoninfo@gmail.com and 472-3955. His presence will also be extremely valuable as I transition out of the office for maternity leave in the upcoming weeks.

Success in Prevention for Bars and Restaurants in Benton County

Over the last 2 years the Area Substance Abuse Council and the Above the Influence Coalition have been able to partner with bar owners, managers, and servers in Benton County on issues of responsible alcohol service. ASAC prevention staff has been meeting with the owners and managers of area bars and restaurants to discuss what responsible alcohol service is, and how to best achieve it for their business.

The next and final regular session will be held on  THURSDAY, June 9th from 7:30am-8:30am at the Belle Plaine Area Museum (901 Main St. Belle Plaine, IA).  The topic for this session is NETWORKING WITH A PURPOSE.  The focus of the session will be building your networking skills and developing your elevator pitch to have lucrative, meaningful networking engagements.

'Dream come true:' Birker's Bows & Iowa Crafters brings many artists to 1 store

Leah Birker says her new store in downtown Vinton is a dream come true. The new store at 117 East 4th Street in Vinton is a dream come true for a rural Vinton woman who has been making and selling craft items from her home. Leah Birker and her family have opened Birker's Bows and Iowa Crafters in the former Jessy's Gems location. Along with the variety of bows and other things made by Leah, there are several areas reserved for other area artists who make everything from cake to chairs.

Troy Eberling at Specwar Tactical offers a variety of firearms accessories. On May 2, one of Vinton’s newest businesses, SpecWar Tactical, opened its doors at 511 ½ 1st Avenue. SpecWar Tactical has been in business for 9 years online and has recently moved to Vinton. Specializing in firearms accessories and modern sportsman gear, SpecWar Tactical carries a variety of holsters, rifle bags, and now features body armor.
