Vinton selected as site for summer forum on downtown development

The Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (IEDA) Downtown Resource Center assists communities around the state in revitalizing their downtowns or commercial districts. This summer, staff of the Iowa Downtown Resource Center will facilitate several downtown forums to bring together community leaders interested in engaging in a discussion about their downtowns.

The Mall is open as Ender continues work on building

The Mall is open now, while work continues on the building. The Mall @ RJ Ender Computers is open now, although RJ continues to work on the building, making room for more businesses to share their unique items. "We are trying to offer niche items that are not found anywhere else in the area," says Ender.  The RJ Ender computer business will continue to operate in the building at 511 First Avenue, says Rich Ender.

Individuals who are not yet 60 are WELCOME but need to pay $4.25 directly to the site manager for their meal. If you are just coming for the activity, the suggested contribution is $1.

Total Balance 100-Day Squat Challenges raises $2,575 for E.I. Honor Flight

Squat Challenge:Julie Lessig gave Honor Flight reps George Rickey & Jim Cerveny the $2,575 raised. Total Balance kicked off 2016 with the 100 DAY SQUAT CHALLENGE. The entrance fee and any donations collected went to help support the Eastern Iowa Honor Flights, a non-profit organization dedicated to sending local Veterans to Washington D.C. to visit various historical sites and war memorials. Tuesday wasthe final day of the challenge; the 29 participants each performed 100 squats! With the $2,575 raised, Total Balance was able to help pay to send fie veterans on the Honor Flight.

Barber FixIt: New owner offers sales, rental and service

Leon Barber will offer mower and equipment sales, service and rental at Barber FixIt Despite cold, windy weather that discouraged customers from test-driving the zero-turn mowers, Leon and Cindy Barber held a successful open house at Barber Fix-It, the lawn mower/outdoor equipment sales and rental business on Saturday morning. "We have had a steady stream of people," said Leon, as the couple spoke to a few visitors.

East-Central Iowa REC and CIPCO Launch Utility-Scale Solar Generation in Urbana

East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative (ECI REC) is part of Central Iowa Power Cooperative’s (CIPCO) utility-scale solar project which is the largest in the state. The Urbana Solar Acres facility will generate 1,133,800 kWh of energy as a part of CIPCO’s 5.5MW solar project. Once complete, the Urbana Solar Acres generation facility will contain 3,024 solar panels and generate enough electricity to power up to 113 homes.

Vinton Landscaper Joins Green Farmstead Partner program

Arbor Care LLC of Vinton has been designated a participating landscape professional in the Green Farmstead Partner program. The on-farm environmental initiative promotes the planning and installation of tree plantings on livestock and poultry farms. It’s a collaborative effort involving the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers, Trees Forever and the Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association.
