Local documentary maker earns Outstanding Partner Award from IWGA

Producer Brad Johnson of Wine Diamonds accepts the Outstanding Industry Partner of the Year Award. DES MOINES — The Wine Diamonds Film Team has been named the Iowa Wine Growers Association’s Outstanding Industry Partner for 2016. Producer Brad Johnson was presented the award during the 2016 Iowa Wine Awards Banquet & Dinner in conjunction with the Iowa Wine Growers Association Annual Conference on Sunday, February 28 at Prairie Meadows Conference Center in Altoona, Iowa.

'Colonel' Rundlett graduates from World Wide College of Auctioneering

Dakota Rundlett of Vinton is among recent World Wide Auctioneering College grads. Earning the honorary title of "Colonel," Dakota W. Rundlett Vinton graduated recently from World Wide College of Auctioneering, (a.k.a. Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering). Rundlett successfully completed the course of instruction and training covering all phases of auctioneering taught by 22 professional instructors at the college.

Shopko opens in Vinton

1st customer: Cale Butts made the very first purchase at Shopko today, from clerk Lori Polesky. Young Cale Butts made a bit of Vinton retail history this morning when shortly after 9 a.m. he became the first person to ever make a purchase at the new Shopko Hometown Vinton store. Clerk Lori Polesky rang up a candy sale, making Cale the first official Shopko customer. The store opened today, a little more than a year after the closing of the Alco store.

McDonald's to celebrate renovation with After 5, Family Fun Day

The Vinton McDonald’s will be celebrating its renovation with a variety of events over the next several days. On Thursday, Vinton Unlimited members are invited for an After Hours event from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. During this event, restaurant leaders will present the VSHS Choral Department a donation for the choir robe project. The restaurant will also hold a week-long celebration from March 18-26, with prizes and special deals throughout the week.

Community Development Internship Opportunity

Vinton Unlimited is looking for a summer intern to help with community event planning, marketing, social media and office management. Must be a good communicator in both written and verbal communications. Must be organized and comfortable working with the business community. Facebook and Twitter experience is a plus. Graphic design & WordPress experience is also a plus, but not required.

Upcoming Benton County Action Academy

We missed YOU at our Action Academy Kickoff; but don’t worry, there is still time to participate! Benton Development Group, Vinton Unlimited and Belle Plaine Community Development hosted a kickoff with the Small Business Development Center to familiarize Benton County small businesses with the Action Academy.  This is a series of engaging educational experiences for small businesses to think about their business in a different way than they normally do, while connecting with small businesses resources and building their professional network.

Shopko doors to open March 13; Grand Opening set for March 25

Shopko employees have been busy stocking the shelves with the opening just days away. Construction crews are putting their final touches on the project as the Vinton Alco becomes the Vinton Shopko Hometown. Store officials plan to open on Sunday, March 13, in what they call a "soft opening," which means the store will be open for business but not actively advertising. A grand opening celebration is set for Friday, March 25.

Walton accepted to West Bend-Polestar program; to become Wilson-Hite agent

Tressa Walton, has begun training to be an agent at Wilson-Hite insurance. It is with great excitement that Wilson-Hite Insurance announces that Tressa Walton has been accepted into the West Bend-Polestar Program.  She is one of 25 in the Midwest accepted into this year’s five month program.  This is the first step in the career change of becoming an agent at Wilson-Hite Insurance.  Tressa will specialize in Health and Long-Term Care Insurance as well as Personal lines-focusing specifically on home, auto, and Identity Theft insurance.

IMCA honors Kathy Root for many achievements

The automotive racing world recognized one of its most accomplished members. Kathy Root, retired owner and president of IMCA and now chair of the sanctioning body’s executive committee received an achievement award, citing her dedication to short track auto racing, during the Racing Promotion Monthly workshops in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Eastern Iowa Hay Producers Association Annual Meeting & Conference

Area hay and forage producers are invited to attend the 33rd Annual Eastern Iowa Hay Producers Association (EIHPA) Annual Meeting and Conference on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Buzzy’s in Welton. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the program scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. This year’s conference will focus on hay fertility, risk management, and cover crops.
