With continuing weather forecasts of temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s and heat index topping 100 degrees in Iowa, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach beef veterinarian Grant Dewell reminds beef cattle producers that properly preparing for these weather conditions is vital to maintaining herd health. Greenhorn Grazing Program continues with Dyersville event July 21

VINTON, Iowa – Participants in the Greenhorn Grazing program last month learned about identifying plant species, watering systems and managed grazing techniques at the John Schupbach farm near Elgin, Iowa. The next session, offer by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will be Tuesday, July 21, at Country Junction Restaurant in Dyersville, Iowa.

Farmers Savings Bank century celebration continues

Cupcake day: Barb Johnson, Lisa Staab and Carrie Hantz were among those enjoying them at FSB. Asher Lehman went to the bank with his grandma on Friday, and came home with a cupcake and a $5 bill.  He was one of many people who helped Farmers Savings Bank-Vinton celebrate its 100th anniversary. A line of people waiting for Scratch cupcakes formed at around 10 a.m. in the parking lot. Inside, many people tried their luck at the mini-golf game.

Cooling Dancers win many awards at Starz Finals

Mini winners   Wisconsin Dells, WI:  The Cooling Dancers of the Vinton area competed June 18-20 at the Midwest Starz Grand National Finals.  The event was held at the Kalahari Resort Convention Center in the Wisconsin Dells.  47 studios from numerous states were in attendance competing in several age groups and styles of dance.

Go for the green: FSB customers can win cash while playing mini-golf this week. Along with cookies all week, cupcakes on Friday, and the Thursday community appreciation dinner, Farmers Savings Bank-Vinton is celebrating the banks 100th anniversary with a mini-golf game that allows customers a chance to win some cash. Any player whose putts lands on a replica bill with an employee's face on it wins that amount in real money.

Farmers Savings Bank & Trust to mark 100th year

Farmers Savings Bank & Trust of Vinton is celebrating its first century, along with its traditional Thursday community meal this week.  FSB President Darlys Hulme said that in both Vinton and Traer, the banks have solid buildings and great staffs. She said no major changes are in the works at either location in the near future. Farmers Savings Bank & Trust has long been involved in both communities, says Hulme, adding that residents of both communities are familiar with the institutions and staff members.
