What Should You Plant? Corn or Forage? Schriefer to offer advice in sessions
Fields are not created equal, or at least that’s what Gene Schriefer, University of Wisconsin Extension Ag Agent for Iowa County, says. Schriefer says that every acre of soil within a field is not created equal but yield maps are a useful tool for determining the best use for specific fields. He will be discussing how to use yield maps for crop planning at a breakout session at the Driftless Region Beef Conference in Dubuque, IA, on January 22 & 23, 2015.

Schwan’s and the Iowa Braille School Alumni Association have begun a fund-raising campaign to help provide education and support to the youth and young adults who are blind/visually impaired and also help raise funds for the Alumni Association.

Farmers Bank Open House: Refreshements and $2 church donation program
The annual Farmers Savings Bank & Trust-Vinton Holiday Open House takes place from 8:30 to 5:30 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 5.
Customers can enjoy refreshments, and Santa Claus will come at 3:30 p.m. to greet children.
The bank is also offering customers a chance to sign their church up for a $2 donation.
LaGrange announces plans to add office/school supplies, small appliances
As the Vinton business community adjusts to the impending closing of the local Alco store, many merchants are making some changes.
One of those is LaGrange Pharmacy, where Dan LaGrange would like customers to know what changes they may see in the near future.
"In an effort to better serve the residents of Vinton and the surrounding areas LaGrange Pharmacy is doing some rearranging,” says Dan.
Permit To Carry Class, Dec. 16
A course for Iowans to obtain their Permit to Carry Weapons has been scheduled in the area. The four hour course covers handgun safety, gun handling, carry options, situational awareness, interaction with law enforcement, use of force, and state and federal laws. The course teaches students how to be safe and efficient with a firearm for personal protection.
