(Editor's Note: This is the second in a series of articles designed to share information about the American Legion) The American Legion has teamed up with the Missing in America Project (MIAP), to seek out what could potentially be tens of thousands unclaimed cremated remains (cremains) of veterans who served in wars throughout the past century.

PMX donates more than $20K to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight today was presented with a check for $20,050.89. This represents funds raised by the employees of PMX and their members of the United Auto Workers, PLUS, a match by the company.  The check was presented by PMX President S.G. Kim.   He stated "we are honored to be able to do this to honor our veterans, and since we are a Cedar Rapids based company, felt this was an appropriate way to support members of the community.

Jaymes Harr among 2014 Bellevue graduates

Jaymes Haar of Belle Plaine is among the list of 813 graduates who received degrees in 2014 from Bellevue University in Nebraska. Bellevue University proudly acknowledges the accomplishments of students who have earned degrees from January through June 2014 - 813 total, including 247 graduate degrees and 566 bachelor's degrees.  Bellevue University offers more than 50 undergraduate degree programs and 21 graduate degree programs, with more programs in development.

CP Historical Society plans plans trip to Sullivan Museum

Once and future Victory Gardens were the topic of a talk by Ellen Skripsky at the Center Point Historical Society Depot Museum Sunday, July 20.  Skripsky, a longtime Linn County Master Gardener from Cedar Rapids, comes by her gardening skill naturally.  She remembers helping with the World War II victory gardens planted by her father Joseph Trejtner, who emigrated from Czechoslovakia as a teenager.

AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20 Corps Member Spotlight: Bukola Egbaiyelo

Bukola Egbaiyelo, from Washington, D.C.,  is serving on team Cedar  6 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. She arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start her 10-month service term. Cedar 6 is made up of seven people from across the country who will serve together around the Midwest. Bukola says “I want to learn more about different communities all over the United States.

Did you know this about the American Legion: Family Support

Editor's Note: This is the first article in a series from Brad Anderson, the Commander of the George G. Luckey Post 57 American Legion Post in Vinton. In this series, Anderson will try to offer information about the organization that some people may not yet know. Did you know that the American Legion has a program called Family Support Network? This program provides support to the family members left behind when a service member is deployed.

AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20 Corps Member Spotlight: Darius Mosley

By: Sarah Williams Darius Mosley, from Memphis, Tennessee is a corps member for Maple 1 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start his 10-month service term working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 1 is made up of eight people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest.

Upper Iowa University announces May 2014 graduates

Upper Iowa University is pleased to announce the names of its May 2014 graduates, followed by the degree earned and respective honors. Anna Darling of Atkins, IA, Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Admin in May. Laura Boddicker of Newhall, IA, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in May. Regina Hoffman of Walker, IA, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business and a minor in Environmental Science in May.
