Area Suffolk Breeders Compete for Top Honors at Iowa State Fair

Jerry Quam and Family of Wanamingo, Minn. exhibited the Grand Champion Ram in the Suffolk Sheep show August 18 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. The Minnesota farm also placed first in the Premier Exhibitor competition. Benda Suffolks of Jackson, Minn. was awarded the Grand Champion Ewe banner. The Reserve Grand Champion Ram was shown by Ruby Mountain Sheep Company LLC, of Spring Creek Nev.

Hannah says that she wouldn’t be the person she is today without the help of a lot of people and now it is her turn to give a hand to people who have hit a rough patch in life.

Longs Win Honors in State Fair Shorthorn Cattle Show

Grand Champion Bull honors were awarded to Vogel Family Shorthorns of Hartley in the Shorthorn Cattle Show August 18 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Vogel Family Shorthorns was also awarded the Iowa Champion Bull banner. The Reserve Grand Champion banner was awarded to Roca Shorthorns of Clarksville. Sara Sullivan of Dunlap earned the Grand Champion Female banner.

Meyer Farm places in Iowa State Fair Miniature Hereford Cattle Show

22 Cattle Company of Orange City captured Grand Champion Bull honors in the Miniature Hereford show August 17 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. The Grand Champion Heifer was shown by Judy Splitt of North Platte, Neb. KP Ranch of Tekamah, Neb., won the Reserve Grand Champion Bull and Reserve Grand Champion Heifer banners. The Iowa Champion Bull Banner was awarded to Strong Miniature Herefords of Montezuma, and the Iowa Champion Female was shown by the RJ TNT Farm of Lawler.

NCCC Team from Iowa Responds to Hurricane Isaac ARC Call Up

  Shreveport, Louisiana –An AmeriCorps National Community Corps (NCCC) team is working with the American Red Cross (ARC) in response to Hurricane Isaac, managing a shelter for evacuated residents from August 28 to September 19.   The 9 member NCCC team from the North Central Regional Campus in Vinton, Iowa is assisting with the daily operations of the shelter at the Louisiana State University of Shreveport gymnasium as well as the cleaning and closing of the shelter when the time arises.
