NCCC’s Maple 1: Everyday is a Habitat Day

By Clifford Borner II The AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) team Maple 1 recently completed their last NCCC service project with Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) in Flint, Michigan During their project with GCHFH, which ended November 3, the AmeriCorps NCCC team rehabilitated run down homes, put up siding on new homes, built decks and painted.

Dick & Leota Sailer to celebrate 50th Anniversary

Dick and Leota McNeal Sailer were married on Saturday, November 2, 1963 at the Assembly of God Church in Vinton. The couple's two children, Valerie (Dean) Close of Brandon, and Becky (Peter) Lolagne of Independence along with their 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, will celebrate their 50th Anniversary, with a small family dinner.

NCCC’s Maple 2 Spooks Wisconsin boys and girls for a good cause!

By: Nicolette Koerner AmeriCorps NCCC’s Maple 2 arrived in Hartland, Wisconsin on October 25, and immediately got to work to help keep Camp Whitcomb/Mason beautiful and functioning! The camp serves The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, and is a place where children can come to get away from the city, some of them even seeing stars for the first time.

Vinton veteran encourages others to participate in Honor Flight

Vinton Navy veteran James Merchant was among those veterans who participated in the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight earlier this month. And although the flight happened during the final days of the government shutdown, Merchant said the veterans were able to see all of the memorials.
