January 30, 2024The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in special session with Supervisors Primmer, Seeman and Bierschenk present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Members of the public are invited to join in during open session or watch the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/bentoncountyiowa. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously.

Hello, Iowa House District 84 from the State Capitol!
The Iowa Legislature just completed its fourth week, and it was a busy one! On Tuesday, January 30th, the Capitol had multiple waves of blue coats visit, also known as the Future Farmers of America students from across the state. I had a wonderful time with the FFA chapters from Benton Community, North Linn, and Vinton-Shellsburg, and all of the members were very polite and asked great questions. Death penalty debated for murder of police, prison employees
By Robin OpsahlState senators gave initial approval Monday to a bill that would bring back the death penalty in Iowa for first-degree murder cases where a person intentionally murders a police officer or prison employee.Senate Study Bill 3085 is one of two bills to be discussed this session to reinstate capital punishment in Iowa. It passed a three-member subcommittee with two Republican votes.
