Roll Call was answered by Harvey, Thorkildson, Travis, and Reeves. Vogt was absent.Mayor Speckner opened the public hearing for the approval of the FY2024 Max Tax Dollars. There were not any questions.

Gov. Reynolds Signs SF 181 Into Law giving $127 million in Property Tax Relief

Gov. Reynolds signed SF 181 into law, a bill that clarifies the rollback calculation for residential and multi-residential property and delivers $127 million in property tax relief to Iowa homeowners.  Division I of the bill addresses the assessment limitation (or rollback) calculation for residential property. The Iowa Department of Revenue has issued an Order certifying the new assessment limitation which changes the assessment limitation for residential property from 56.

Week six of the legislative session has come to a close; here are some of the highlights. A notable bill from this week's floor debate is SF 75. This bill creates a new license for hospitals called rural emergency hospitals (REH). A rural emergency hospital means a facility that provides rural emergency health services 24/7 and does not provide any inpatient acute care.

 Vinton-Shellsburg Superintendent Kyle Koeppen and School Board member Kim Schirm visit the Capitol for Iowa Association of School Boards. Hello District 84 from the State Capitol!Week six of the Iowa Legislature wasn’t quite as busy under the golden dome as it was cut short by a day due to the winter storm we had on Thursday. Let’s hope we don’t get an ice storm for the upcoming week!On Wednesday, we voted on 14 bills and two resolutions. Nine of these votes were unanimous and the remaining five passed by at least 75% voting.
