Week three of the session at the State House started out with a major piece of legislation, House File 68, that focused on creating Education Savings Accounts for K-12 students.The main points of the bill are the state will contribute $7598 to an education savings account for each student attending private schools. Over the span of a decade, the State Auditor's office has found more than a quarter of a million dollars of mismanaged student activity funds in 15 school districts. Below is a reminder from the State Auditor:
Safe at Home helps to Protect Survivors of Various forms of Abuse
Did you know Iowa provides address confidentiality for survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, assault, trafficking, and stalking? Safe at Home was created with unanimous support in both chambers of the Iowa Legislature in 2015. It is administered by the Iowa Secretary of State. The Senate has completed its third week. This week I attended the Justice Systems
Appropriations Subcommittee, Workforce Committee, and State Government Committee. I was a
part of the subcommittee for SF 33 that would allow any former crew member of any US Navy
vessel named after the State of Iowa to be eligible for in-state tuition rates at Iowa's regent
