Iowa law changes allows .410 and 28 gauge shotguns for Turkey hunting

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed into law a new bill that legalizes the use of .410 and 28-gauge shotguns to turkey hunt. The bi-partisan legislation, which can be found in SF2334, passed the Iowa House and Senate without a single "no'' vote. .410 and 28-gauge shotgun rounds, which are among the smallest types of hunting ammunition that are manufactured, are often preferred by hunters who shoot smaller game, like turkeys.

City of Shellsburg Audit Results

On Monday, Auditor of State Rob Sand released an agreed-upon procedures report on the City of Shellsburg, Iowa, for the period July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021. The agreed-upon procedures engagement was performed pursuant to Chapter 11.6 of the Code of Iowa. Sand reported eight findings related to the receipt and disbursement of taxpayer funds. They are found on pages 9 and 10 of this report.

Governor Reynolds signs Israel and antisemitism bills into law

Gov. Reynolds today signed two bills into law relating to anti-BDS of Israel and antisemitism during a formal meeting with the Israeli Consul General to the Midwest Yinam Cohen.  HF2373 is an act relating to restrictions regarding companies boycotting Israel.  HF2220 is an act relating to antisemitism in the state of Iowa.

Live bird exhibitions canceled due to highly pathogenic avian influenza

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today announced an order cancelling all live bird exhibitions at fairs and other gatherings of birds due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The order also prohibits live birds from being sold or transferred at livestock auction markets, swap meets and exotic sales. The Department’s order begins immediately and is effective for a minimum of 30 days, and until 30 days has passed without a confirmation of a new infection of HPAI in domestic poultry in the state of Iowa.
