The Iowa Legislature has been keeping very busy passing bills, with the Iowa House passing dozens of bills and most of them either unanimous or close to it.HF 2127 and HF 2198 are intended to help with child-care, HF 2127 allows parents to pay the difference between Child Care Assistance rates and the rates charged to families that do not receive CCA.

Gov. Reynolds issues disaster proclamation for counties including Benton County

Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for ten counties in response to the March 5 severe weather. The governor's proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond to and recover from the effects of this severe weather in Adair, Benton, Decatur, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Polk, Tama, Warren, and Wayne counties. In response to the governor's proclamation, the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program (IIAGP) and the Iowa Disaster Case Management program(IDCM) have been activated.

Recovery Steps Outlined for Families Impacted by March 5th Tornado

Late Monday afternoon the Governor’s Office issued a disaster proclamation for Benton County opening up the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program for families and individuals impacted by Saturday’s Tornado.According to Scott Hansen, Benton County Emergency Management Director, the first step for anyone receiving damage is to contact their insurance company.

Governor includes Benton County in Disaster Proclamation

 Today, Gov. Derek Wulf Announces Run For Statehouse

Derek Wulf, a fourth-generation farmer/rancher from Hudson, announced today he will be seeking the Republican nomination for State Representative in the June 7th primary election for Iowa House in District 76, which includes rural Black Hawk County, northeast Tama County, and portions of northwest Benton County.Wulf was born and raised in rural Black Hawk County, graduating from Hudson High School and then continuing his education at Iowa State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.

Benton County Conservation Wins Award for Excellence in Environmental Education

The Iowa Association of Naturalists (IAN) and the Iowa Conservation Education Coalition (ICEC) are proud to award Benton County Conservation and Iowa Education Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired with an IAN/ICEC Award for Excellence in Environmental Education. The award is the Sylvan Runkel Environmental Education School Award for Outstanding Whole-School Environmental Education Program.
