Special Council Meeting Mayor Makes Emergency Declaration

On Tuesday evening's City Council Meeting via a Zoom call, the council met with most in attendance, Ron Hessenius, Tami Stark, Nathan Hesson, Nate Edwards and Andrew Elwick. Absent was Brian Parr. All members of the Vinton Municipal Electric Utility (VMEU) Board were present Rich Hainstock, Kim Meyer, Mike Barron, as well as the two newest members, Gerald Horst and Melissa Mosher.

Additional COVID-19 cases in Iowa, additional death confirmed in Benton County

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has been notified of 102 additional positive cases for a total of 1,048 positive cases. Benton County Board of Supervisor Minutes 3/31/2020

March 31, 2020                 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman were present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.   Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session.

Melinda Schoettmer Sworn in as Benton County Treasurer

Rose Sackett, deputy, Judge Sarah Rothman, Melinda Schoettmer, Treasurer, Joy McGowan, deputy Following the resignation of Kelly Geater last November, the Treasurer's office has seen several changes. Michele Sauer was appointed in December and resigned for another position effective March 31, 2020. Melinda Schoettmer was then appointed to fill the seat by the Benton County Supervisors. Geater's original term expires on December 31, 2022. The seat will be on the November ballot which will complete the remainder of the original term, running January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2022.

Benton County Supervisors Extend closure of Benton County Facilities

The Benton County Courthouse is closed, if you need to contact anyone inside, here are their numbers The Benton County Board of Supervisors voted to extend the following decision to close Benton County facilities through the April 30th date set by Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds.The following information will apply through that date. Today, the Benton County Board of Supervisors met to discuss the County’s response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Additional closures by Governor Reynolds 4/6/20

Today, Gov. Reynolds signed a new proclamation continuing the State Public Health Emergency Declaration, ordering additional closures and relaxing additional regulations to support the state’s efforts to combat COVID-19.
