Benton County Republicans to hold monthly meeting Tuesday, February 9th

The Benton County Republican Central Committee will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, February 9th, at 7 p.m. at the Van Horne Community Center located at 500 1st Ave, Van Horne. Our agenda includes welcoming our new central committee members, giving a caucus re-cap, and planning the county convention. Benton County Republicans are invited to attend.

Benton County Board of Supervisors Minutes 1/26/16

January 26, 2016 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Frese, Hertle and Wiley present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Moved by Wiley, seconded by Hertle, to approve the minutes of January 19, 2016, January 22, 2016, and January 25, 2016. All members voting aye thereon. Motion carried.

Patrol Division Activity Report for January 2016

Benton County Sheriff Randall Forsyth reports that deputies answered 263 calls for service and investigated 29 accidents.  Deputies attempted to serve 138 civil papers and issued 36 traffic citations and 58 traffic warnings.   There were 29 arrests/juvenile referrals with 36 charges being filed in January 2016.  (6) were felony charges, (12) were simple misdemeanors, and (18) were indictable misdemeanors.

Benton Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners meeting 2/17/16

The next regular meeting of the Benton Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners will be held on Wednesday, February 17 2016, at the District Office, located at 1705 West D Street, Vinton, IA.  The meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m.   Agenda items include:  approval of minutes, approval of treasurer’s report and payment of bills, approval of conservation plans, review of activities and bills for the Benton/Tama Nutrient Reduction Strategy Watershed Project, upcoming events, an update on NRCS activities, state cost share business, correspondence, and other routine business.

Just  reminder before we get started, the Legislative Listening Post is in Shellsburg's American Legion, this coming Saturday at 1:30. Be there or be square. The Tax Coupling Bill The tax coupling bill has an impact on the FY 2016 ending balance and the FY 2017 on-going revenue levels. Any agreement will impact discussions on school aid and budget targets.

Grassley to Continue Annual 99 County Meetings Feb. 16 in Vinton

Senator Chuck Grassley will hold six town meetings in eastern Iowa Feb. 16 through Feb. 18 as part of his annual 99-county meetings.   “Representative government is a two-way street.  I’m one half of the process and the people of Iowa are the other half.  You can’t have representative government without dialogue between elected officials and the people we represent,” Grassley said.

In the Statehouse

January 30, 2016 Our third week was great. I worked on everything from school funding and the Rock Island Clean Line to the supervision of Physician's Assistants by doctors and then ended with city wastewater systems...with lots in between. Five bills I was assigned dealt with moving county elected officials to not Democrat or Republican.
