March 15, 2016 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with all members present.  The chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously. Dear Friends and Neighbors, Happy Spring to you all! Another eventful week at the Capitol and we are making progress! In fact, it appears we may adjourn for the year on time or very close to it. Finishing on time means we are getting paid up to that point. In my twelve years that's only happened once and the longest we worked beyond was over 60 days, so it will be a welcome change.

Mathahs to challenge Pettengill in Iowa House District 75

Attorney and small business owner Dennis Mathahs announced that he will run in the Democratic Primary for State Representative in House District 75, which includes Benton County and the communities of Marengo, Conroy and West Amana in Iowa County.  “I am running for State Representative because Iowans and the people of the 75th district deserve a representative that will work with republicans, democrats and independents to do what is best for Iowans,” said Dennis Mathahs.

Pettengill seeking re-election in Iowa House District 75

This week, Rep. Dawn Pettengill (R-Mount Auburn) filed her nomination petitions to the Secretary of State’s office to seek re-election to District 75 in the Iowa House this fall.  The district includes all of Benton County as well as four townships in northern Iowa County. First elected in 2004, Pettengill serves as the Chairwoman of the Administrative Rules Review Committee and Co-Chair of the Public Retirement Systems Committee.

Soil & Water Commission to meet March 16

The next regular meeting of the Benton Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, 2016.  The Commissioners will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the District office in Vinton.  Items on the agenda include minutes from previous meetings, financial reports, conservation plans, Federal and State cost share programs, Watershed Project activities, selection of District Scholarship award winner and other general business.
