Pettengill seeking re-election in Iowa House District 75

This week, Rep. Dawn Pettengill (R-Mount Auburn) filed her nomination petitions to the Secretary of State’s office to seek re-election to District 75 in the Iowa House this fall.  The district includes all of Benton County as well as four townships in northern Iowa County. First elected in 2004, Pettengill serves as the Chairwoman of the Administrative Rules Review Committee and Co-Chair of the Public Retirement Systems Committee.

March 1, 2016 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with all members present.  The chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously. Wiley moved/Hertle seconded:  Approve minutes of February 23, 2016.  Motion Carried. Hertle moved/Wiley seconded: Approve part time Reserve Officer, Paul McIntire at $21.

Soil & Water Commission to meet March 16

The next regular meeting of the Benton Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, 2016.  The Commissioners will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the District office in Vinton.  Items on the agenda include minutes from previous meetings, financial reports, conservation plans, Federal and State cost share programs, Watershed Project activities, selection of District Scholarship award winner and other general business.

Election 2016: County candidate filing period begins today

The filing period for candidates seeking  county office begins today and ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. This is for the June 7 primary election, when county Democrats and Republicans will choose which candidates will represent their parties in November. Four county offices are up for re-election in 2016: The supervisor seats currently held by Terry Hertle and Don Frese, and the offices of sheriff and auditor.

Hertle moved/Wiley seconded:  Approve minutes of February 16, 2016.  Motion Carried.
