Gov. Reynolds, Senate Republicans release joint statement on budget compromise

4th grade Students from Central Lutheran School, Newhall have field trip to the Capitol.  Seated is teacher Mrs. Melanie Maddick. The Iowa legislature has been in session 15 weeks, and the 110th day signifying our target date of being done is this Friday, May 2nd. We are working on budgets for the next fiscal year, where the house budget proposals are a little bit higher than the governor’s budget she proposed in January, and the senate having the lowest of the three. These are all subject to change in the coming days, so I’ll provide more detailed information as we work through our negotiations.

House votes to ‘flush’ sales tax on toilet paper

Christian Hermanson, R-Mason City, said during debate.House File 1019 passed the House on a vote of 82-11 and moves to the Senate. If signed into law, the bill would take effect July 1.The measure would cost the state an estimated $6 million in estimated general fund receipts in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, growing to a total of $6.
