The Wesley Mobile Food Pantry Vinton works tirelessy throughout the year to provide a great service to those in need. Providing supplies of food to feed families in need is something that they take to heart. The food pantry gladly accepts donations of food and monetary donations. If there is anyone reading this that might have a suggestion for grants, or places that help to meet this need, please send a message to the food pantry through their Facebook page linked above.

Iowa elementary students invited to learn with pigs Iowa elementary school students will have the chance to learn about life on a pig farm through a virtual visit on Thursday, October 26. The Iowa Pork Producers Association is working with the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation (IALF) to host a "Learning with Pigs Farmchat®". Students can join IALF's Education Program Coordinator Alex Osborn virtually as she tours the Benton County pig farm of Todd and Denise Wiley.

Vinton Park's and Rec is in the process of upgrading the pool For a long time the condition of the slide was such that it needed to be replaced. Last week in a lengthy process, the slide was taken down. The operation took longer than I had expected it to. With a lot of chainsawing, metal cutting and maneuvering with the crane, the slide was finally taken down over the course of the week.

By: Co-Reporter, Juliana LuisTuesday, September 26 was a big day for Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members. 9 members signed up to attend Hawkeye Ag Day eager to learn more about different parts of agriculture. When the members made it to the event they were split up into groups and put into different stations covering various aspects of the field. Some of the stations included fire safety control, learning about a ruminant digestive system, and meat preparation safety.

Shelby Van Weelden of Coggon, and the daughter of Vinton resident Melody Snow was welcomed by the Vinton Kiwanis Club on Tuesday. Shelby is a firefighter in Cedar Rapids, but she came to speak about something completely different. She has plans to ride in the Annual Mongol Derby, in Outer Mongolia in August of 2024. The derby is a 621 miles horse race that lasts 10 days.
BOY SCOUT TROOP 47 - October 16th, 2023 5:23 pm

On Saturday, October 21, Boy Scout Troop 47 will be conducting another can/bottle drive. The event will be at the Farmer's Savings Bank parking lot starting at 8:00 a.m. and will run until 3:00 p.m.On Saturday, October 21 and Sunday October 22, Troop and Pack 47 will also be distributing door hangers at residences all over Vinton with instructions for donating to this year's Scouting for Food event.

Friday, Oct. 13th did not bring bad luck to the residents and staff at Virginia Gay Nursing and rehab, matter of fact it brought us a great blessing, much fun and laughter. The members of the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings football team came to visit. Lisa Stien RN provided pizza, candy, and a beverage, we played Bingo and each player introduced themselves and told us what position they played.

By: Co-Reporter, Izzie BirkerEach year chapters in the Northeast district send their new greenhands to learn about FFA from our state and district officers. This year on October 6th at Waverly-Shell Rock, they welcomed all of the new Greenhand FFA members in each chapter. While at Waverly-Shell Rock on Friday, district and state officers led four interactive workshops for the FFA members.
