Benton County Fair Book Released

The Benton County Fair is underway! It takes many, many people to pull off the events at the fair. The displays are now in the Open Class Building (off to the left as you enter the fairgrounds) and judges have begun to award ribbons in the entries. There are numerous categories that have had entries submitted. See the Fair Book below for all of the details!Both adults and youth are in competition for the blue ribbon entries.

Why aren't the FREE lunches being served at Tilford this year?

To operate as an open site, the site must be located at or in the attendance area of a school with 50.0%+ free/reduced or within the boundaries of an eligible census block. Initial eligibility data can be used for up to 5 summers. Vinton Shellsburg does not currently have a school with 50% free & reduced eligibility. In looking at our claims, Tilford Elementary is really close.

Benton County Emergency Management Speaks with Residents about Preparedness

Hansen shares tips on how to be prepared in an emergency Scott Hansen of Benton County Emergency Management spoke to the Vinton Kiwanis concerning preparation for disasters. He shared a list of supplies that families should have on hand, encouraging everyone to stock up a little bit at a time if they can't buy a lot of supplies at once. He shared that the 25-year food supplies that he's tested, are still good some 15 years after his family bought them.

VSCSD provides Summer Meals: Site Locations and Times

We live outside of Vinton on our farm where we raise beef cattle and corn and soybeans. I will be a junior at Vinton Shellsburg in the fall. After high school, I plan to attend college and am considering majoring in Animal Science and Ag Business.

Vinton Class of '83 holds 40th Reunion

Vinton Class of 1983 holds 40th Class Reunion Members of the Vinton Class of 1983 held their 40th class reunion on Friday and Saturday in Vinton. Members of the class met at the Ron da Voo on Friday night, and then met to golf on Saturday morning and finished the weekend on Saturday night at Berry's Lanes for a meal together and a time of visiting and catching up with each other. A raffle was held for items created by the talented Derrick Stott.

Talley: Life in prison without the possibility of parole & Restitution

Life in prison without parole, and $150,000 in restitution ordered for Tacoa Talley The murder conviction of Tacoa Talley in the death of Jodie Bevans resulted in his sentencing trial being set for Friday afternoon. Because the defense attorney had forgotten about the hearing, there was approximately an hour and a half delay. Talley was found guilty of first degree murder by a jury in Benton County on April 14, 2023. After just a few hours of deliberation by the jury the decision was unanimous.

Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Plant Sales

Dahlias that were grown and sold in the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Plant Sales. By Co-Reporter, Juliana LuisThe Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter and Greenhouse Management Class held their annual Plant Sales from April 28th-May 14th. From the beginning of the school year the greenhouse class has grown a variety of plants such as petunias, peas, tomatoes, and geraniums. The days of the plant sales consisted of helping customers find specific plants, checking out orders, and making sure the environment was suitable for the plants and customers.
