Quilts of Valor recipient Terry Schild
I'm a huge fan of the Quilts of Valor ceremonies. There are so many of our men and women out there that have gone through wars, fighting alongside so many other good people. Why? As one of the presenters said, "So that she could put her three little boys to bed at night and not worry about a bomb going off or them being gassed while they slept." The Quilts of Valor is a program that awards quilts to men and women who have been in battle. JAKES Day event brings 30 children to Izaak Walton
The temperature was into the mid-90’s and heat indexes over 100 degrees but that did not hamper JAKES Day sponsored by the Blue Creek Springtime Monarchs, Benton County’s chapter of the National Wild Turkey Foundation (NWTF). 30 kids ages 4 - 15 attended along with an additional 25 parents, volunteers, and chapter members. If you've lived in Benton County for any length of time, you soon realize that most everyone is related to someone you know, someone you went to school with here or your neighbor. And it's not your imagination. Benton County came in 6th place in Iowa of all the counties in with the most born and bred residents in Iowa. Someone at Stacker thought it would be a good project to run the numbers to find out which counties in Iowa had the most born and bred Iowan in it.

Jeanette Henry-VFW Auxiliary President 2021-2022 has completed her one-year term as President of VFW Auxiliary of Iowa. Throughout the year Jeanette attended Auxiliary meetings, District meetings, and Department conventions across Iowa.She drove over 35,000 miles throughout the State. She attended many other events, too. On June 2-5,2022 in Des Moines, Iowa she attended The VFW and VFW Auxiliary Department Convention.
