Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members excel at Summer CDEs
In June, various FFA members shined in various Career Development Events. On Tuesday, June 14th, 7 members traveled to Kirkwood Community College for Livestock Judging and Floriculture. By: Co-Reporter, Alana FlemingOn Friday, June 10, 2022-2023 Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter Officers, Paul Herger, Kail Evans, Alana Fleming, Grace Shminke, Andrew, Pingenot, and Austin Noe attended the annual COLT (Chapter Officer Leadership Training) Conference held at Hawkeye Community College. While they were there they bumped into a few recognizable Northeast District Officers: Annabelle Newton and Josh Wiley, who were leading different sessions at the conference. Member of the Month - Autumn McGowanAs a Junior, Autumn has had three great years in the program. This year, she did an awesome job in the Parliamentary Procedure LDE and running the Personal Growth Committee. Autumn is easily recognizable in the chapter, and is known for her frequent National Anthem performances. Her SAE project records her financial entries while working in the food service industry. District 42 Race won by Two Votes - But the Race goes to Another
After all of the votes were counted in the Primary Election on June 7, Colman Silbernagel won the election on the Republican ticket in District 42 by only two votes beating out Charlie McClintock. As expected, McClintock requested a recount of all the ballots. Recounts were held in both Linn and Benton County which the district covers.Upon recounting the ballots, McClintock gained three votes in each of Benton and Linn County putting him ahead by four votes. Bailey Weeks to Compete at the World's Largest Rodeo
The Cinch High School National Finals Rodeo has placed Bailey Weeks, a senior at Vinton-Shellsburg High School on the Iowa National High School Rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gillette, Wyoming, July 17-23 to compete at the 74th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo in the girls cutting and goat tying competitions.Featuring more than 1,650 contestants from 44 states, five Canadian Provinces, Austrailia, Mexico and New Zealand, the NHSFR is the world's largest rodeo. Newton Crowned Benton County Fair Queen for 2022
Annabelle Newton, the daughter of Chad and Kim Newton has been crowned the Benton County Fair Queen for 2022. Newton also has a younger sister Sophia at home. The family live outside of Vinton on a family farm. A junior at Vinton-Shellsburg High School, she hopes to study business or physical therapy following graduation. She has been part of the Jackson Better Farmers 4-H Club for 8 years, and has exhibited swine, rabbit, and static projects during her time in the club. Wednesday Night is 4H Night at the Fair

Organizers are pleased to announce that the 2022 Party in
Pink 5K held this past weekend raised over $10,000. The beneficiary of these
donations is the Gifts of Hope Program, which offers financial support for
breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The event brought 302
registered participants to Vinton’s Riverside Park on Friday evening for the
