Area Cemeteries stand ready for Visitors

Evergreen Cemetery Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have gone before us. We remember our military men and women many we’ve lost in the line of duty, or because if their service. Hopefully we take our kids to the cemetery to visit the resting places of their ancestors. Take a few hours this weekend to remember them. Share stories with the next generation about the generations that they never met.

MONEY MATTERS: WELLS FARGO IMPACTS EASTERN IOWA STUDENTS WITH JA PROGRAMS

Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa is pleased to announce Wells Fargo has renewed their contribution to support financial literacy educational programs for 787 Eastern Iowa students. Through this partnership, kindergarten through 12th grade students will learn about money recognition, earning and saving, the importance of money to a city, about the jobs they can have to support their families, about credit, and investing.

The Vinton Community Foundation is announcing the distribution of $27,367.60 in grants to the following organizations serving the City of Vinton. Vinton-Shellsburg Retirees Celebrated and other Leaders Honored

Stephanie Miller and Alexa Francois with Mindy McClintock Vinton-Shellsburg Retirees and Award Winners were honored at a public open-house reception on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the Central Office.Mindy McClintock began the presentations by recognizing the 2021 VSEA Award Winners.This year there were two Teachers of the Year recognized, Stephanie Miller and Alexa Francois. Mind McClintock, President of the Vinton-Shellsburg Education Association.

VintonThe Vinton American Legion George G. Luckey Post would like to invite everyone to a ceremony at the American Legion building in Vinton on Memorial Day, May 30 at 9:00 a.m. The Legion will be taking time to pay tribute to all our fallen Brothers and Sisters that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. There will be a short program with a salute to the dead, with refreshments afterward.

Center Point Urbana Kindergarteners take a field trip to the 1850s

Center Point Historical Society President Andersen helped to teach the CPU children this fine art of hanging out clothes on a clothesline. The Kindergarteners from Center Point-Urbana elementary school took a field trip to the Center Point Historical Society on May 16. The children were given an opportunity to experience life in the 1850s at the Strait Log Cabin. The children "washed clothes" in a wash tub using a washboard and learned how to hang them on a clothesline with clothes pins during a field trip to the cabin with the help of the Center Point Historical Society President Andersen.

Flag and Rock Dedicated at Izaak Walton

The local VFW sponsors the Red Cedar Shooters Trap Team and have an ongoing relationship with the team.  The team asked the local VFW Post 8884 if they would help get a flag pole and flag on the grounds of Izaak Walton in Vinton.  When they have their trap shooting meets the team wants to display the flag for their opening ceremonies.  The team dug the hole for the flag pole and Dale and Jeanette Henry went out and set the pole and cemented it in the ground.
