MONEY SMART WEEK POSTER CONTEST

Mazy Druschel with her winning Money Smart poster Farmers Savings Bank & Trust held a poster contest answering the question, “Why is it important to know about money?” Mazy Druschel, a 5th grader at Shellsburg Elementary, was awarded the $50 local grand prize for having the top-voted poster for her grade and highest votes out of all 42 entries. $20 was also awarded to a winner in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade levels.

Virginia Gay Home Health staff had a wonderful time celebrating two of their Home Care Clients who had the amazing opportunity of being included on the April 19th, 2022, Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. The two spent the day in Washington DC, touring all the Military Memorials. They had a well-deserved day of being acknowledged for the Heroes they are, having fought for our Freedom.

V-S FFA Sees Best Fundraiser Yet!

Juniors Grace Schminke and Josh Wiley helped keep accurate records at check in as FFA members gathered to prepare for the auction. By: Isabel Mullinex (Co-Reporter)On Thursday, April 7th, 32 FFA members and 2 advisors signed up to be auctioned off by Jon Winkelpleck to volunteer within the community. At the Volunteer Auction, FFA members are sold for 8 hours of community service to do various tasks like babysitting, garden work, working livestock, chores, walking beans, fence building, as well as working at food stands at local county fairs and other events.

Domestic Dispute in Urbana results in Arrest

On Tuesday, April 19, police were called to a reported domestic dispute on W. Wood St. in Urbana. A third party who was not on the scene, reported that a female was being held against her will and that a handgun was involved. Officers were able to make contact with the suspect upon their arrival. Raymond Cullins, 31, but found no weapons had been involved.

Vinton Emergency Services share Distracted/Drunk Driving Simulation w/ Students

If you saw an ambulance, fire truck, and miscellaneous police and sheriff's cars at the Vinton-Shellsburg high school this morning, it's okay. There was NOT an emergency! The local emergency services provide a bit of a reality check to area high school students on distracted and drunk driving. The department brought two cars and simulated a head-on collision, complete with injuries and deaths.

Lawyer's license revoked over theft

Vinton lawyer, John K. Fischer, has had his law license revoked by the Iowa Supreme Court for misappropriation of client funds. The court found an "intentional act of theft," warranted the move. Last year the Attorney Disciplinary Board accused Fischer of numerous ethics rule violations. The Grievance Commission also found several rules of professional conduct had been violated.
