Katelyn Folkmann of Newhall, Iowa was recently awarded the title of 2021 Iowa Miss Agriculture Advocacy Ambassador & 2021 Midwest Cover Miss United States Agriculture. At the Midwest Regional Miss United States Agriculture Pageant, was also awarded 1st runner up for Iowa Mis, Overall Essay for Iowa Miss, and 1st Runner up for Iowa’s Peoples Choice and Overall Midwest Miss Agriculture Advocacy Ambassador. 3 Year Old Vinton boy needs Kidney Donation
Ryker Bailey of Vinton was born with just one kidney. The little 3-year-old, his mom said is fun-loving and outgoing in spite of all he's been through. In his 3 years he's gone through 30 surgeries and continues the battle to survive. Currently, in the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, he is suffering from kidney failure. Vinton's First Baptist Church provided Vinton residents with a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Each year the church prepares meals for the residents to enjoy. This year, however, because of COVID, the church decided to order heat and eat meals from Hy-Vee. If ever there was a person born to be doing a job it would be Melody Snow. She was chosen to fill the position of Vinton Unlimited Director, beginning on Wednesday this week. Melissa Schwan had previously filled the position, Schwan and now moved on to be the City Clerk.Snow’s first day of work was Wednesday. Easton Lindeman gets a visit from the Pink Fire Truck
This past February, Easton Lindeman then age 2, son of Corey and Samantha was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that affects his adrenal glands, spinal column, and bone marrow. Neuroblastoma is a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body. Treatment for Easton started right away. Vinton Fire Department Thanks Community
As we near Thanksgiving and a time to reflect on the blessings we all enjoy in our lives (and despite 2020, most of us have far more to be thankful for than we may admit at first), VFD wants to offer the deepest thanks to those who attended and supported our Vinton Fire Department Chili Supper - 2020 Special Edition!This was our only fundraising opportunity of 2020 after having to cancel both our primary fundraisers (Fish Fry and Pancake Breakfast) and we truly had no idea what to expect. Thanksgiving night you will again, for the 55th year, be able to enjoy the Kersten Christmas light display. The lights will be on Monday-Friday 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on the weekends you can see them at 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The last day to see the lights this year will be December 27th. Heidi Kersten, said that there are a lot of repairs needed on the lights this year, thanks to a squirrel.
Dear Santa, putting a little normal in a not so normal year
One of my favorite things to do is to capture Santa with all of the kids at Christmas. It is always fun to watch the mouths drop open as Santa addresses a lot of the kids by name. The kids often comment to their mom or dad, "He knows my name!" It's even funnier when the adults aren't sure who he is and have to ask. I had that question last week. "Who's playing Santa? He knew me but I didn't know who he was.
