Angel Tree in need of Shoppers or Givers

Angel Tree tags remain at locations in Vinton, help needed to fulfill the needs of area children. Santa is in need of several elves to fulfill the needs of area children. Located at Farmers Savings Bank & Trust as well as the First Christian Church there are Angel Trees that still have several tags available. Monetary donations can be dropped or mailed to First Christian Church to help fulfill the remaining tags if you prefer to help this way.

Breakfast with Santa brings 200

Breakfast with Santa brought children to see Santa outside in a drive through event The usual Christmas Breakfast with Santa looked a little bit different than it has in years past. Each year children and their families would fill the skate center for a chance to share breakfast with Santa Claus. Pancakes and syrup are followed by sitting on Santa's lap and telling him all of the things the children wished for through the year. Mom and dad would get their chance to take pictures for the annual Christmas card.

FFA holds Banquet and Barbecue

Due to being unable to hold the annual banquet last spring, the two events were held in conjunction. The night consisted of the combined Barbecue and Banquet program, as well as a member-only meal and the to-go dessert bar to follow the program.

It’s Christmas time in the city

Take a tour of the various light displays across town. Here is part of the Dulin display. In a year that's been anything but cheerful, the Christmas season is in full swing around Vinton. If you are in need of some cheering up, hop in the car and drive around town just to find all of the Christmas lights.Most of us have heard of the Kersten light display north of Vinton on the corner of 22nd Ave. and 22nd Ave. Trail. There is also a wonderful display on the northwest corner of the former East elementary school property.

Vinton Kiwanis Club donates to The Backpack Program

The Vinton Kiwanis Club makes $1,500 donation to The Backpack Program The Vinton Kiwanis Club donated a check to The Backpack Program (formerly known as Operation Backpack) for students of the Vinton Shellsburg Community School District. Funds were raised through a virtual "MILES FOR MEALS 5K Run/Walk"  and donated to the group to supply food for students in need. The participants in the 5K race were entered into a drawing for prizes.

State Canvassing Board certifies results of Iowa’s 2020 general election

The Iowa State Canvassing Board officially certified the results of the 2020 general election on Monday. Election turnout was the highest in state history, with more than 1.7 million voters casting ballots. Iowa’s turnout percentage of 76% was one of the highest in the nation. “I’m proud of all the work our election officials and poll workers put in and of the way Iowans showed up in record numbers to make their voices heard,” Secretary Pate said.

Clipper Corner raises funds to help Gifts of Hope

Mary Barkdoll of Clipper Corner presents check to Robin Martin for Gifts of Hope In October, Clipper Corner held a raffle to raise money for the Gift of Hope program that offers help to those facing a breast cancer diagnosis.For the 3rd year, Clipper Corner raffled two groups of gifts and chose the two winners. Of Vinton, Allen Garwood and Pratt Walters of Belle Plaine. Money raised through this raffle, in the amount of $1.
