Fire Prevention Week 2020 Style

It's Fire Prevention Week at Tilford Elementary Because of COVID and the precautions this year, fire prevention education took place outside the classroom at Tilford Elementary this year. The children were taught the usual fire precautions in education, but it looked a little differently.The firemen of the local Vinton Fire Department dressed up in their gear so that the children could see what they look like should they encounter them during a fire.

V-S FFA Holds Local Greenhand Fire-Up

By: Co-Reporter, Annabelle Newton On September 17, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter held their annual Local Greenhand Fire-Up Night at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School. This is open to any Greenhand, which is a first year member in the FFA chapter. Greenhand night welcomes new members to the chapter, while also showing them the ropes of FFA. Seven Greenhands began the night by doing a get to know each other ice breaker.

Better Together missing donations

Tonight we share a post we never thought we’d have to.When we started Better Together, it was important for us to remain in the community we’ve grown up in and love. We love our sense of togetherness and the way our neighbors watch out for us the same way we watch out for them.We’re simply saddened to report that our neighbors and friends have notified us multiple times in the last two weeks that some of the donations left at our door are being stolen.

Holy Bandit on the Loose in Vinton!

Residents are hoping that the disappearance of statues that used to be located at their homes are simply a homecoming prank and that the belongings will be returned. A post in an area Lost and Found group mentions a cement angel that weighs about 50 lbs. and is about 2 feet tall, went missing. The angel was a birthday gift and the family would appreciate its return.

Homecoming Parade brings a touch of normal and a bit of fun

The Vinton-Shellsburg Football Team arrives to cheers during the homecoming parade After months of canceling every activity that we're all used to participating in, the Vinton-Shellsburg Homecoming Parade was a welcome return to a bit of normalcy. Kicking off promptly at 6:00 p.m. the parade wove through downtown and returned to the high school. To see photos, click here. Tomorrow night's Vinton-Shellsburg Homecoming game against Center Point-Urbana will begin at 7:00 PM at the Karr Athletic Complex followed by the Homecoming Dance (for current VSHS students only) from 9:30 to 11:30 pm in the back faculty parking lot at VSHS.

Two Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Members To Receive American FFA Degrees

Grant Ries enjoys hauling hay in from the field, By: Co-Reporter, Josh WileyEric Henkle and Grant Ries will receive their American Degrees at the Virtual National FFA Convention, October 27-29th. The American Degree is the highest level of achievement anyone can receive as an FFA member. To be eligible to receive this prestigious award, the person must have received a State FFA Degree, hold an active membership for the past three years, complete secondary education through another agricultural education program, as well as operating an outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE).
