Car vs. Deer Accident results in injured driver

On Friday night, a driver traveling eastbound in the 2500 block of 61stSt. Lane,  Vinton, swerved to miss a deer that ran into the roadway. The driver crashed into the northeast ditch at the intersection of 26th Ave.and 61st St. Lane.The driver was transported to the Virginia Gay Hospital by ambulance. Madorin’s towed the vehicle out of the ditch.

Vinton motorcyclist injured in an accident Friday evening

Larry Eckhart of Vinton was injured in a motorcycle versus truck accident on Friday night. The accident occurred around 5:00 p.m. near Walker.A truck driven by a juvenile backed into the motorcycle's path causing the crash.Neither the driver of the truck nor a passenger on the motorcycle were injured.Eckhart was transferred to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Q and U will forever spend their days Quarantined together

Tilford Elementary celebrated the wedding of Q and U with the Honorable Mrs, Shipley presiding The annual Q and U Wedding was held Friday at Tilford Elementary. The celebration of the joining of Q & U is always met with excitement from the first graders. This year the two were married in a small private ceremony.  Every year parents are invited to attend, but this year they were missing. In addition to veils and flowers, masks were the must-have accessory as the children marked the day which landed in the middle of the COVID pandemic.

Model A's roll into Vinton on Thursday

A step back in time to the era of the Model A It's not every day that you see a Model A, let alone 14 of them. Some cars traveled from as far away as Muscatine and Cedar Falls and as near as Cedar Rapids and Shellsburg. The cars were part of the Hawk A Model A Club of Eastern Iowa which made a stop in Vinton on Thursday.The group made an abbreviated road trip that was originally supposed to be a two-day trip that was to include a boat ride in Iowa Falls with a meal on a riverboat, but.

Benton County Residents find assistance at Informational meeting

Benton County Emergency Management, Scott Hansen shared information with residents Tuesday afternoon  Tiesday afternoon found area residents finding area organizations willing to lend a hand and provide resources that might help following storm damage. Following the derecho clean up from the damage alone consumed the thoughts and energy of area residents. The Benton County Extension and Outreach provided an event at the fair grounds to answer some questions, provide some support and to give a bit of education to area residents.

4th COVID Case in Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District

Information released from Vinton-Shellsburg's Superintendent Kyle Koeppen notified the community of a fourth case of COVID. So far all cases contracted by students have not come from contact with other students at school but rather from outside the school [st]ting. The Superintendent released the following statement, "We had an individual from the middle school test positive for COVID over the weekend.
