Dear Santa, putting a little normal in a not so normal year
One of my favorite things to do is to capture Santa with all of the kids at Christmas. It is always fun to watch the mouths drop open as Santa addresses a lot of the kids by name. The kids often comment to their mom or dad, "He knows my name!" It's even funnier when the adults aren't sure who he is and have to ask. I had that question last week. "Who's playing Santa? Hey kids!If you would like to send Santa a letter, there is a mailbox located in front of LaGrange Pharmacy. Letters will be delivered directly to the North Pole for Santa and Mrs. Claus to read. The local American Legion George G. Luckey Post 57 would like to ask you to consider a donation to the post. Like everyone else, because of COVID-19, the Post has had to curb their fundraising efforts this past year affecting their budget, no, to put it bluntly, they are struggling. For over 100 years the Legion has been in the area, serving where they can, and teaching others the importance of patriotism.

LifeServe Blood Center, the sole provider of blood to more than 120 hospitals across Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, is seeking community members who have tested positive for COVID-19 or have COVID-19 antibodies to donate convalescent plasma to meet the dramatically rising plasma needs of local hospitals.As the number of daily COVID-19 cases in our region rises, so does the need for convalescent plasma (CCP) in local hospitals.
Vinton Fire Department serves Chili supper
Vinton pulls out all the stops when it comes to supporting our own. Well, all of the stops that we can in the midst of shutdowns, COVID, quarantines, face masks and social distancing. Kiwanis Club hosts V-S Superintendent
At last week's Vinton Kiwanis club meeting, Superintendent Kyle Koeppen spoke to the group. Sharing some of the demographics of the school he gave a presentation to the group. The school district is just about split evenly between male and female students he said. A number that has increased across the state and is true in Vinton is that about 40% of the students qualify for free student lunches.
