100 Days of School marked off the calendar

School teachers at Tilford Elementary joining in the fun of the 100th day of school celebration I don't remember 100 days of school aging us like it does now!Teachers at Tilford Elementary joined the children of Tilford Elementary in celebratng the 100th day of school dressing up as 100 year old teachers and students.It's always a highlight of the year for the children to participate in the fun.Mrs. Mathis shared the photo below of the adorable 100 year old children in her class.

Vinton Shellsburg Band Soup Supper brings nearly 200

Around 180 people attended the Vinton Shellsburg's Band soup supper on Friday night. The group raised around $2,500 to put toward Band activities. Many of the parents volunteered to pull off the event.

Shoplifting Leads to a Federal Prison Sentence for Illegally Possessing a Gun

 Convicted Felon and Meth User Possessed a Gun and Fled from Police             A Vinton man was sentenced today to seven years in federal prison.             Anthony Hill, age 29, from Vinton, Iowa, received the prison term after an October 17, 2019 guilty plea to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

LAW ENFORCEMENT IN BENTON COUNTY TO BEGIN ROLLING OUT "HANDLE WITH CARE"

Following two years of preparation and training, the initiative ‘Handle with Care’ (HWC) is set to roll out countywide across both Benton and Iowa counties.“Through this program, law enforcement will send a notice to a designated school employee within 24 hours of responding to a call at which a school-aged child is present,” Erin Monaghan, Director of Benton-Iowa CPPC, said of the initiative.

Donald Martin Shelter under consideration for Homeless Shelter

The rarely used Donald Martin Shelter house in discussion to be used as a homeless shelter There have been several discussions happening both with the city and county concerning partnering with the Willis Dady Homeless Services. A concern in Vinton is for the homeless that are found in Vinton, and unseen to most of us. The police chief had shared with the council that there has been damage in the past caused by those that are homeless trying to find shelter.

Pete Buttigieg visits Vinton

Pete Buttigieg visited Vinton on Monday evening. Monday evening found a sizeable crowd at the Tilford Elementary cafeteria. The crowd was somewhat larger than the size of the crowd that turned out to see former Vice President Joe Biden.There is a link to the speech he gave on Vinton Today's Facebook page if you would like to take some time to watch.  Is it almost sad to see the caucus season wrap up, and see the candidates move on somewhere else.

Pete Buttigieg to visit Vinton, Tilford Elementary Monday, 6:00 p.m.

Pete Buttigieg, Presidential Candidate for the 2020 election will be in Vinton on Monday night, January 27 at Tilford Elementary. Tilford is located at 308 E. 13th St. in Vinton. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.The event is free and open to the public.RSVP for details.

MEET CATHY MAILE—a Norway resident and force for good in her role as secretary at Norway Intermediate School where she spent over 30 years working to create nurturing environments for students. Cathy is the eleventh nomination to the Family Nurturing Council’s Faces of Benton County campaign. Cathy was nominated by the staff at Norway Intermediate School.
