Last Saturday, the streets of downtown Vinton were transformed into a sea of chrome, vibrant colors, and revving engines as the annual Vinton Car Cruise rolled into town. Car enthusiasts and families from across the region gathered to celebrate a love for classic automobiles, local pride, and a shared sense of community.The morning started with a warm sun climbing into a clear blue sky, setting the perfect backdrop for a day full of nostalgia and horsepower.

If you decided to host the countryside for breakfast, how big of a skillet do you need? Probably a 9' X 14' 3" one...just so people know where to find you! And if you DID decide to use the largest skillet in Iowa, how much could it hold? It would hold about 44 dozen eggs, or 176 pounds of ham, or 88 pounds of bacon laid out inside.All of this talk about breakfast foods it begs another question.

 Sept. 23, 2024 – The deadline to submit grant applications to the Benton County Community Foundation’s 2024 grant cycle is 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 15.The online grant application can be found on the Community Foundation’s website at www.bentonccf.org.  Grants are awarded to projects within the program areas of arts and culture, community betterment, education and youth development, environment and animal welfare, health and human service.

ITC Midwest announced that it will be conducting aerial patrols of high-voltage transmission structures and lines throughout its service territory from approximately September 23 – October 1, weather permitting. Helicopter patrols provide an overall status of the overhead transmission system owned and operated by ITC Midwest.The flights taking place across our area of the ITC Midwest service territory include the Central Zone.

Nearly two weeks ago on September 10, the accident that shook the Union Community Schools is still being dealt with for the survivors and their families.  An update is below for those who are still hospitalized from the horrific accident complete with links to donate to help them. The first paragraph concerns the woman who was hit and the final paragraph includes a link for the Rohrbach family who lost their son.
