DOG SHOT WHILE ATTACKING OWNER ANOTHER DOG

On Sunday, December 8, 2019, at approximately 6:37 p.m., the Vinton Police Department responded to the 700 block of A Avenue in Vinton regarding a dog attack. Officers learned that a pit bull kept by a local resident got out of the house and attacked a neighbor’s dog which was tied up in a yard. When the pit bull owner attempted to restrain her dog, the pit bull then attacked her as well.

Angel Tree in need assistance for area children

Angel Tree has been a staple in Vinton for several years. Lanette Parker heads up the efforts of organizing and helping to obtain gifts for children in the area.Every year it's a challenge to find space that can be used for several weeks for storage as well as a location for gift distribution. Both US Bank and Farmers Savings Bank & Trust have a lot of tags left for distribution.

2 hour late start for Vinton Shellsburg

There will be a two hour late start for students if the VINTON-Shellsburg School District.

Birker signs with Hawkeye Community College RedTails

Amelia Faith Birker signed her letter of intent to run cross country and track for the RedTails of Hawkeye Community College on Wednesday. Her coach, Tyler Mulder serves as the head coach for Hawkeye’s track and field and cross country teams. He is joining the staff fresh off his own professional running career with the Nike Oregon Track Club. Mulder was an eight-time NCAA All-American at the University of Northern Iowa, going on to run professionally for Nike from 2009 to 2016.

Holiday with a Cop, receives overwhelming response

The Vinton Police Department issued the following statement:"Due to the overwhelming support of the community, we will no longer be accepting donations for "Holiday with a Cop". If you still would like to make a donation please consider the many "Angel Trees" in the community at local organizations or consider donating next year. We truly appreciate all your support and are grateful that you continue to give to the children in the community!"Vinton, you really are the best.

Lions Club presents check to V/S Booster Club

Vinton-Shellsburg Viking/Vikette Athletic Boosters and the Vinton Lions Club  A Winning Team The Lions Club recently presented the V/S Booster Club with a check for $2000 dollars, money generated from the Lions food trailer sales at this fall's football games. For the past eight years the Lions Club has presented the Booster Club with a check which the Boosters use to provide equipment, supplies, uniforms etc. for the V/S athletic program. The Boosters, through their hard work and dedication have provided needed items for the athletes in our schools for many years.

Eleventh Annual Holiday Tree Walk Donors & Winning Bidders

Eleven years later, the Virginia Gay Hospital Annual Holiday Tree Walk is still going strong. This annual silent auction came to a close on Tuesday, November 26. With the continued support of a generous community, another $10,000 will be donated to the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation’s Tree of Lights Campaign to support health care in Benton County.

Holiday with a Cop begins Fundraising at Pizza Ranch

Last night area police officers arrived at the local Pizza Ranch in an effort to raise funds for the Holiday with a Cop program. The project was created to assist area children in the purchase of needed clothing and a bit of fun in the form of a toy all made possible with donations from the community.Several officers took some time out to assist busing tables and visiting with area residents on Wednesday evening.
