iVinton sweepstakes winner announced with a second opportunity to win $250

Vinton Kiwanis deliver dictionaries to 3rd Grade Students

Taylor Gill showing the longest word at 1,909 letters Each year, the Vinton Kiwanis Club delivers dictionaries to the 3rd grade classes in the Vinton Shellsburg School District. Making the delivery this year were Alexa Spiedel, Dave Gates and President Tom Husnik. Each of the 3rd grade students received their own copies and quickly began to read through the extras in the back of the book. The longest word which came in at 1,900+ letters is always a hit with the students.

5 Law Enforcement Departments respond to high speed chase on Monday night

Damage caused by a high speed chase on Monday night. Suspect is not in custody at this time. At approximately 7:23 p.m. on December 2, 2019, the Benton County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop in Norway for a traffic violation. When a deputy activated the emergency lights, the driver sped away. Officers from the Benton County Sheriff's Office, Belle Plaine Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Tama County Sheriff's Office, and Iowa County Sheriff's Office began to pursue the suspect.

We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of giving by members of our community in recent years and we are excited to help our clients have another joyful, meaningful Christmas again this year! Many of our clients, who all live in Benton County, are low income, lack the support of close family/friends, and have unfulfilled needs.

Pourville teaches and takes out the fear in becoming an artist

I've seen the classes advertised, and heard all the ladies talk about how wonderful they are. I'd say, "Yeah, yeah and when I get time...maybe someday I'll do it." On a fluke the other night I saw a picture that Dandeena Schadle would be teaching a class downtown at Pourville on how to paint the above picture.  It had a pickup in it. I think that was the catch, I heard several people comment on the pickup.

Lion's Club News; For the KidsHayley Engler, a junior at the University of Iowa and a Vinton-Shellsburg graduate spoke to the Lions Club recently about the University of Iowa/Children's Miracle Network Dance Marathon. Hayley is on the recruitment and retention committee and has been involved with the Dance Marathon since she was a freshman at the U of I.

Holiday with a Cop holds 2nd Annual Event

Officer Katie Shimerowski of the Vinton Police Department saw an opportunity to organize a bit of fun, education as well as help some families that might need a hand during the Christmas season. Organizing the Holiday with a Cop project, she is seeking donations for the project each year.Last year the program allowed several area children to go on a shopping trip with Law Enforcement Officers from both the  Vinton Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

Haefner family adds new member

First official act as a Haefner is to see where Grandpa works Most Tuesday mornings are routine for me as I enter the courthouse. I lug my computer and camera up to the second floor to record the Supervisor's meeting. But last week something special was about to happen that I had no clue was going to happen. A special little girl was officially adopted.Thanks to advertising by the American World Adoption Agency and a Steven Curtis Chapman concert, a little girl that lived in an orphanage in Haiti now has a new family in Iowa.

First Baptist Church Serves Annual Thanksgiving Meal

With 21 volunteers on Thanksgiving Day, and several the day before, First Baptist Church in Vinton was able to serve close to 300 people a free Thanksgiving meal. The church is known for sharing their hard work and great cooking with the community each year.Thanks First Baptist Church!Pictured are Colleen Karrik and Sandy Driscol (Photo courte
