Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt tradition continues

The decades-old tradition of Vinton Kiwanis members placing Easter Eggs for children to find on the Saturday before Easter continued this weekend, as the club members and many families braved the cold and wind to gather at Kiwanis Park.

Courthouse security protocols begin

Today marked the beginning of the new Benton County Courthouse security protocols, as all but the west door facing 1st Avenue will be locked from the outside, and all visitors must pass through a metal screening device to enter the building.

Although the Benton County Treasurer's Office has not yet received any shipments of the new style of state license plates, Treasurer Kelly Geater and her staff were surprised when a personalized plate ordered by a Benton County resident arrived in the new style.

The Vinton Police Department K-9 Unit was requested by the Benton County Sheriff's Office early Thursday morning around 7:35 AM to assist a deputy in apprehending 24 year old Jordan Dale Turner who ran from a Benton County Deputy southeast of Vinton in rural Benton County.
