Albuquerque officer -- father of Vinton woman - fighting for life after shooting
An Albuquerque, N.M. police officer – and the father of a Vinton woman – is fighting for his life this morning after being shot multiple times following a traffic stop.
Daniel Webster, the father of Rebecca Ingham of Vinton, was still in surgery this morning following the overnight incident.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Davon Lymon, has an “extensive violent crime history, including a murder charge from 2001,” according to a statement made on the Albuquerque PD Twitter page.

Woodhouse receives Lions Club International Foundation award
Dr. Alan Woodhouse was recently honored by the Vinton Lion’s Club with the Melvin Jones Fellow award. Alan has served in many roles over many years, including club president. He is best known locally for his hard work on behalf of the local club’s primary fundraising effort, the Lions food trailer. The Vinton Lions are regulars at home football games and Party In The Park, and many other local events.
Area man recovering from beating in Wisconsin; 3 suspects face felony charges
A Garrison man is recovering in a Wisconsin hospital after a vicious beating.
Nick Decker was injured when assailants described by witnesses as “four Mexicans” assaulted him in the parking lot of the Road Dawg Bar in Beloit. Police called the event an “aggravated battery;” it took place at around 1 a.m. Monday morning.
iVinton will be represented tonight at candidates night
Members of the iVinton initiative to create local control of our telephone, cable TV, and internet services will be at the candidates night tonight. Citizens involved in promoting iVinton will be available starting at 6:30 and after the meeting to answer questions from voters.

Operation Backpack is a program in the Vinton-Shellsburg School District aiming to improve the health of district elementary students. Led by high school students, the program sends home bags of healthy food and snacks with children in kindergarten through fifth grade on a weekly basis.
Operation Backpack continues serving VS families
A year after 2015 Vinton-Shellsburg graduates Riley Ries and Kylie Miracle started the Operation Backpack program, three students are leading the efforts to provide food to 100 students who attend the Tilford or Shellsburg elementaries.
"I have been fortunate to always have had enough food," says Emily Howes-Vonstein. "And I like to help people.
Grand opening: Garrison residents celebrate library progress
Nearly ninety Garrison residents, including former librarians, city council members and library trustees, gathered outside the front door of the new library building to celebrate the progress the city has made in the past four years, and the hard work and determination that citizens showed in recovering from the storm that stole their library, Emergency Services Building and destroyed or damaged many homes.
'Blue Creek Christmas:' Area teens help set up one of area's largest displays
Several members of the St. Mary's Cluster Catholic youth groups in Vinton, Urbana and Walker gathered at the Maue home north of Center Point to help Aaron Maue and his family begin setting up for the huge computerized Christmas display known as Blue Creek Christmas.
The teens are preparing for the NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) in Indiana next month, and they offered a few hours of volunteer labor in exchange for a donation toward their trip.
