We have no school on Thursday and Friday (April 2-3) this week.

Country Travel Discoveries President Steve Uelner visited Vinton on Tuesday, considering the area and some of its attractions for possible inclusion in the company's 2016 tour schedule.
Uelner visited the Iowa Braille School campus, where Nancy Beckman presented some of the story about the school and its most famous student, Mary Ingalls.

The driver of a pick-up escaped serious injury Monday afternoon when his vehicle left the roadway of Highway 218 north of Vinton and struck a pole. Benton County deputies, the North Benton Ambulance and the Vinton Police Department were dispatched to the scene.

Those participating in the Easter Egg Hunt at Rodgers Park this weekend may hear the buzzing of a small remote-controlled aircraft overhead. Those who have seen this machine, and the result of its efforts, now know that the drone belongs to Vinton resident Brendan Turner, who has begun offering drone photography services through his business which he calls Aerial Advantage.

In recent weeks, Vinton-Shellsburg High School Ag students (and others) had an opportunity that is rare for a high school campus: They watched baby pigs being farrowed.
That and other unique lessons are part of the growing and increasingly popular agriculture curriculum at VSHS.
More than 300 students are now enrolled in some sort of ag class, instructor Louise Fleming told Bob Quinn of the WHO Radio Big Show last Friday, during an open house for the farmers, businesses and individuals who helped make The Barn -- as the Agricultural Learning Lab is often called -- a reality.

The VS FFA Open House begins at 11 a.m. today in the new Animal Learning Laboratory (commonly called "The Barn.")
From 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., the Vinton-Shellsburg High School will showcase a rather unique Animal Learning Laboratory. This open house and field day, themed “Education through Experience,” will take place in the new learning lab located off the east end of the high school.

To passers by, it may look like Josh Mulder is simply another guy playing with his dog in the yard. But those who know Josh and his story know just how important it is for Josh to have Traveler at his side, day and night.
When Mulder goes with Traveler to Waverly to participate in this weekend’s Retrieving Freedom, Inc. (RFI) graduation, he will be joining dozens of elementary students who simultaneously benefit from the service dog program and help train the dogs.
