High Speed Chase ends in arrest
On the 13th of March, 2024, at approximately 14:32 hours, a Benton County Sheriff's deputy observed a silver Chevy Silverado with no license plates traveling westbound in the 2900 block of 74th St. near Atkins. The deputy attempted initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it took off at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit went south onto 29th Ave and then went eastbound on various gravel roads into Linn County.

Accident in Shellsburg results in Injury
On 3-13-2024, at about 7:21 PM, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting vehicle accident with injury on Main St in Shellsburg IA.Deputies responded and found that a 2019 Polaris ATV being driven on Main St, had overturned and the driver and sole occupant was injured.The driver, a 48-yr old male, from Shellsburg IA, was transported by air to the U of I Hospital in Iowa City.
