(Koopman) Schanbacher, age 71, was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at her home in Newhall.Private family funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery in Newhall. JoAnne was born on April 2, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Meril and Agnes (Senne) Koopman.

Richard “Dick” Prusha, 86, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020 at his son and daughter-in-law’s home in Wisconsin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 13, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Rev. Dennis Conway as celebrant. Interment will be held at National Cemetery in Vining, with military rites conducted by the James R.

Dennis R. Whalen, 55, of Vinton died Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Cemetery in rural Waukon, with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating, and will also be live streamed on Martin Funeral Home’s Facebook page.Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.
Doris Verla (Weiss) Heitshusen
Doris Verla (Weiss) Heitshusen, age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2020 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 11, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Luzerne, with Rev. Dean Duncan officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will be held at the Luzerne Lutheran Cemetery.
Philip Jack Riffey
Philip Jack Riffey, 92, of Urbana, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids. Phil was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Iowa City, the son of John and Alice (Fetherkile) Riffey. He was the sixth of nine children and grew up in the cotton fields of Arkansas and Missouri. In 1950, Phil was drafted in the Korean conflict. He completed his training at Vint Hill Farms in Virginia.
Kathryn "Kathy" A. Johnson Rude
With profound sadness I announce the death of my devoted mother and best friend, Kathryn "Kathy" A. Johnson Rude, 73, of Cedar Rapids. She lost her short but courageous battle with cancer Tuesday, June 2, 2020. A Celebration of Life and visitation will be held at a later date at Faith Lutheran Church in Marion, Iowa.Kathy was born on Aug. 28, 1946, in Vinton, Iowa, daughter of Clair and Wilma Johnson.

Marlys "Marty" Ann Barrett, 66, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Urbana, Iowa, died Saturday, May 30, 2020. She was cremated and there will be no services.Marty was born in Cedar Rapids to Duane and Dora Mae Coleman. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1971 and from Kirkwood with an associate's degree in retail marketing. She worked asa manager at Target and as a branch officer for a loan office.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in 2014, then joined the United States Marine Corps several months later.
