BLAIRSTOWN: Dean R. Nieland, 87 of Blairstown died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a sudden illness. Private family funeral services will be held. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown at a later date. Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Frank Wilson, 84, of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully at home February 6, 2014.
He was born March 5, 1929 to Clarence and Eliza Wilson, near LaPorte City. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids.
He married Bernadette Smith on August 12, 1951 in Vinton. Survivors include his wife, daughters, Susan (Arch), Peggy (Tim), sister Murldene Harmon,Vinton, brother Wayne (Sally), Denver, IA, granddaughters Rachael, and Kristen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Norma Enge Louise Garbers

John Kowalski, 71, passed away on Friday, February 7th, 2014 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. He was born on May 26th, 1942 in Boise, ID to John Edward and Bertha Blanche (Mount) Butler.
John grew up in Sioux City, IA. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA in 1960. After high school he joined the US Army in 1960 serving for 3 years in Company A, 6th Missile Battalion, 43rd Artillery in Pottawattamie County, IA and Company B, 4th Missile Battalion, 44th Artillery in Korea. A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, February 17, 2014, at First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating.
