Dean R. Nieland

BLAIRSTOWN:  Dean R. Nieland, 87 of Blairstown died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a sudden illness.  Private family funeral services will be held.  Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown at a later date.  Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown is in charge of arrangements.

Kenney Wilson

Kenneth Frank Wilson, 84, of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully at home February 6, 2014. He was born March 5, 1929 to Clarence and Eliza Wilson, near LaPorte City. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. He married Bernadette Smith on August 12, 1951 in Vinton. Survivors include his wife, daughters, Susan (Arch), Peggy (Tim), sister Murldene Harmon,Vinton, brother Wayne (Sally), Denver, IA, granddaughters Rachael, and Kristen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma Enge Louise Garbers

 Norma Enge Louise Garbers VAN HORNE:     Norma Enge Louise Garbers, 96, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Van Horne with Pastor David Lingard officiating.  Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery near Keystone.

Arlene M. Eckhart

Arlene M. Eckhart VINTON:     Arlene M. Eckhart, 90, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Virginia Gay Hospital following an extended illness.      Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.

Paul H. Meeks

Paul H. Meeks SHELLSBURG:     Paul H. Meeks, 92, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.      Public Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton.  Private Family Graveside Services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery near Shellsburg.

Donald Cashman

Donald Cashman      VINTON:  Donald Cashman, 86 of Cedar Rapid and formerly of Vinton died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.      Funeral Services:  2 PM, Monday, February 17, 2014, Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 East Sixth Street), Vinton.

John Kowalski

John Kowalski, 71, passed away on Friday, February 7th, 2014 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.  He was born on May 26th, 1942 in Boise, ID to John Edward and Bertha Blanche (Mount) Butler. John grew up in Sioux City, IA.  He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA in 1960.  After high school he joined the US Army in 1960 serving for 3 years in Company A, 6th Missile Battalion, 43rd Artillery in Pottawattamie County, IA and Company B, 4th Missile Battalion, 44th Artillery in Korea.

Denny W. Tharp

Denny W. Tharp VINTON – Denny W. Tharp, 64, died suddenly Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, February 17, 2014, at First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment with military honors by Benton County AmVets Post 218 will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.

Richard C. 'Dick' Ender

Dick Ender VINTON - Richard Charles "Dick" Ender, 94, died peacefully Saturday, February 8, 2014, at his residence in Vinton. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Military honors will be performed at the church by George G.

Richard 'Dick' Andreesen

Richard "Dick" Andreesen age 83, died Wednesday February 5, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Saturday morning, February 8, 2014 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural  Monticello with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4 until 7 Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
