CEDAR RAPIDS:  Gertrude Nichols, 94, died June 9, 2010 at the Vinton Lutheran Home in Vinton following a sudden illness.      Graveside Services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids with Father David Ambrosy officiating.  To honor her request there will be no other public services and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the fund of choice.

Roy Sturtz, 60, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.   Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with Pastor Jim Blair officiating. He is survived by his daughter, Shauna (David) Graesser and grandchildren, Seth and Abigail of Amana; three sons, Andrew (Kristine) and grandchildren, Alexandria and Miranda of Ames, Nicholas (Cullin Schooley) of Des Moines, and Cristopher of Vinton; two brothers, George of Vinton and Roger (Jean) of Urbana; and one niece, Peggy Coleson.

Eleanor Luze, age 84, died peacefully Thursday, June 03, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a short illness.    Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home and also for an hour before services at the church on Saturday.  Funeral services will be Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 1030 a.

Verval V. Smith, 80 of Atkins died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Rockridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 29, 2010 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.

David Pearson, 66, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vinton following an extended illness.      A Memorial Gathering will be held from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Rodgers Park near Vinton.      David was born October 2, 1944 at Tony, WI to Clarence Dale and Ruth Ann (Jondle) Pearson.

VINTON:  M. Linda (Davis) Radcliffe, 64 of Vinton died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at her home following a sudden illness.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ronald Sumption officiating.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.  Friends may call from 4 – 8 PM on Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 East Sixth Street) and one hour prior to service time at the church on Friday.

Wayne Robert Fee, 80 of Vinton died Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Vinton Lutheran Home.  In accordance with his wishes no public funeral services will be scheduled.       Wayne was born November 6, 1929 at Vinton to Glenn and Verona (Schmidthans) Fee.  Wayne served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Beryl L. Scott, 87 of Vinton died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton.  Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with full military rites conducted by Iowa Military Funeral Honors and Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57.  A Memorial Fund has been established.

VINTON – Jeanne Louise Noe-Newcomer, 66, of Vinton, died Friday, May 21, 2010, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton following a courageous battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at the Garrison Cemetery with Chaplain Barb Tieszen officiating. Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, May 27, from 6 to 8 p.

VINTON – Joseph W. Wood, Sr., 92, of Vinton, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton with Fr. Ardel Barta as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wed.
