Viking Michael Neal earns fifth place medal

Vinton-Shellsburg senior Michael Neal ended his high school wrestling career with a pin, and a fifth place finish in the Class 2A 152 wrestling event on Saturday.

A perfect 10: Schedule announced for IMCA Haw­keye Dirt Tour

 The Hawkeye Dirt Tour takes its first green flag Tuesday, May 12 at the home track of IMCA Modifieds, Benton County Speedway in Vinton. In all, 10 dates are on the schedule for the sixth annual series.

Viking boys prepare for first-ever State tournament appearance

A new tradition for Vinton-Shellsburg athletes who earn the right to compete at the State level in their sports has begun.  Ehlinger's Vinton Express and McDonald's welcomed the V-S bowling team to the business on Thursday evening to give residents a chance to congratulate the bowlers.

Wood, Bunge take 2nd in district individual bowling event

On Saturday, Feb. 14, eight of the Vinton Shellsburg Varsity Bowlers competed in an Individual District Tournament. Cole Garwood (644) and Alyssa Bunge (584) were the top qualifiers overall.

On to State: Wehage and Neal to wrestle Thursday

When the 2015 State Wrestling Meet begins later this week, two Viking wrestlers will be in Des Moines, hoping for a shot at a state title Max Wehage (126) and Micheal Neal (152) both finished in second place at the District event on Saturday at Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

Vikings fall to Independence at Regional Dual event

The Vinton-Shellsburg wrestling team advanced to the Regional Dual event for the first time, but faced a tough Independence opponent. Just three Vikings (Steve Henry, 285; Max Wehage, 216 and Nick Hyland, 138) recorded victories in a 62-9 loss.
