Medalists Tyler Stueck and Bryce Shaw led the field at the Union triangular. LaPorte City Golf Club was a wet place to be Thursday. That did not stop the Vikings from playing well and figuring out how to play in adverse conditions. The golfers made adjustments and came away with a victory over Union and Hudson. Vinton-Shellsburg shot 167 to distance themselves from Hudson 177 and Union 179. Not many players have experience playing in a constant rain, so we were able to have good conversations and suggestions throughout their round as the players made their adjustments both with thought process and swings.

Vikette golfer Lauren Tandy outlasts pain with grit, unfailing smile

Lauren Tandy: Vikette sophomore overcomes hip problem to be team's No. 2 golfer. A few weeks ago, a stranger walked up to an Iowa military veteran (so identified by the cap he was wearing) and handed him a note from a Vinton-Shellsburg High School student. The unsigned note thanked the anonymous vet for his service to our country years ago. It moved him to tears. Many Iowa veterans have received such notes – all unsigned – from Vikette golfer Lauren Tandy this year.
