Vikettes rally falls short, lose 44-36

Down by 8 after a first quarter Independence rally, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes played the Mustangs even for the next three quarters, but could not overcome that early deficit. The Mustangs won, 44-36. Freshman Anna Sagan led the Vikettes with 10 points. Bethany Stainbrook scored 8 and also led the Vikettes in rebounding with 5. VS travels to Clear Creek-Amana on Friday.

Top-ranked Vikings lead Class 3A in scoring

With the best record (12-0) in Class 3A basketball teams in Iowa, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings are at the top of their class in many statistical categories. Nobody in Class 3A has a higher point differential (points scored vs. points allowed per game) than the Vikings' 22.2 average margin of victory. Nobody has scored more points in the second (215) or third (220) quarters -- or for that matter, points overall (852).

Grant Sagan scores 34; Vikings 11-0 after big win vs. Columbus

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings are 11-0 now, tied with five other teams for the best win-loss record in all of Iowa. The Vikings defeated Waterloo Columbus, 78-43, on their home court Tuesday evening.  Grant Sagan led the top-rated basketball team in class 3A, with 34 points, making 13 of his 15 shots, including three of four 3-point attempts.

Vikings win first home meet of season; defeat Waterloo East

  The Vinton-Shellsburg men’s swim team kicked off its home schedule with a win over visiting Waterloo East Thursday night at the Iowa Braille School pool.  The young Vikings squad celebrated senior night with a wire to wire 57-34 victory.   The Vikes started fast taking first and second in the Medley Relay.
