     The Vinton-Shellsburg girls track team 4 x 100 relay members set a new school record for the event on Saturday, when they finished fifth at the State Track Meet. A plaque will be placed among the trophy area of the school to honor the girls' successful season.       Team members include Ashley Boyer, Cheyenne Barnes, Erika Hammar and Shelby Beyer.

  Welcome to another round of Views from the Grandstands from the ¼-mile bullring we refer to as Benton County Speedway.  Severe weather in the area passed to the north and south of the speedway leading to another great night of racing action.  Before we get started tonight’s action was brought to us by Kioti Clean, which I am not familiar with any of their products.

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is once again hosting a chartered bus trip to catch a summer Chicago Cubs game at the historical Wrigley Field in Chicago. The beloved Cubbies will be taking on the San Francisco Giants in an afternoon game on Thursday, June 30th. The chartered trip package is just $75 and includes your ticket to the game, bus transportation, and driver gratuity.

    Area Youth take part in Annual Hershey Track Meet  Over 180 area youth ranging in ages from 5 to 14 years old participated in the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department sponsored Hershey Track Meet on Tuesday, May 17th at the Karr Athletic Complex. A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers that generously donanted their time to help make this event a success! All youth that participated received a certificate.

      Brandon Banks won the Modified feature at the Benton County Speedway on Sunday, May 22.       Other winners include:      Stock car: Justin Temeyer (who was joined in Victory Lane by his grandparents).      Hobby Stock: Kyle Parizek      Sports Mod: Race Hullin (first win).

      The Vinton-Shellsburg girls 4 x 100 relay team finished in fifth place Saturday in the 3A finals at the State Track Meet.      The team consisting of Ashley Boyer, Cheyenne Barnes, Erika Hammar and Shelby Beyer turned in the fourth-fastest 3A qualifying time on Friday, finishing in 50.86 seconds.      The Vinton-Shellsburg Trap team is peaking at just the right time as they prepare for the Iowa High School State Trap Meet June 4th in Cedar Falls.  Saturday they participated in two meets.  Xavier held a shoot in the morning where V-S Black squad shot a team high of 220/250 targets with Bryce Burroughs leading the team with his 3rd perfect 25/25 and a score of 49/50, placing him in the top 5 individuals for the day.

     The Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team finished its season with a fourth-place showing at the District meet at Waverly on Monday. Several players achieved personal milestones during the tournament.
