Vinton-Shellsburg 10U Baseball Team were crowned champions
The 10U Vinton-Shellsburg 10U Baseball Team were crowned champions of the Boys of Summer USSSA Baseball Tournament this past weekend. The team went 4-1 in winning the tournament. The team is coached by Jim Thompson, Matt Betterton and Scott Barron.

The Vinton-Shellsburg 11U Black baseball team took 3rd place in the Silver Division this weekend in Des Moines.

Drew Fish won his second consecutive Sports Mod feature at the Benton County Speedway in a night that saw a lot of familiar faces returning to Victory Lane. Other winners included.

&nbs Red Cedar Shooters Black Squad earns 3rd place finish at State Championships
The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters trap shooting team capped its successful season with a third place finish at the Iowa High School Trap Shooting Championship Saturday. More than 160 teams competed.
The Black Squad members (Bryce Burroughs, Curtis Geiger, Dalton Lebeda, Wyatt Lebeda and Drake Tilson, finished third with a total score of 462, only eight points behind first place Northwood-Kensett and five points behind second-place Ankeny. Winners at the Benton County Speedway Sunday evening included first-time winner Doug Laughridge, who took the checkered flag in the Hobby Stock feature Sunday, May 29, in his home town of Vinton.

For the first time in the spring of 2001, the Vinton-Shellsburg baseball and softball teams hear the umpire yell "Play Ball." After rain delayed games scheduled earlier this week, both the Vikings and Vikettes hosted Anamosa in Vinton for double headers.
The first softball game was delayed a few minutes in the first inning when an Anamosa runner apparently broke a finger while sliding back into first base. 4 x 100 team set school record at state
The Vinton-Shellsburg girls track team 4 x 100 relay members set a new school record for the event on Saturday, when they finished fifth at the State Track Meet. A plaque will be placed among the trophy area of the school to honor the girls' successful season.

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is once again hosting a chartered bus trip to catch a summer Chicago Cubs game at the historical Wrigley Field in Chicago. The beloved Cubbies will be taking on the San Francisco Giants in an afternoon game on Thursday, June 30th. The chartered trip package is just $75 and includes your ticket to the game, bus transportation, and driver gratuity.

Over 180 area youth ranging in ages from 5 to 14 years old participated in the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department
sponsored Hershey Track Meet on Tuesday, May 17th at the Karr Athletic Complex. A huge thank you goes out to all the
volunteers that generously donanted their time to help make this event a success!
All youth that participated received a certificate.
