Kirkwood Posts Strong Summer Enrollment:

Close to 8,000 students taking classes; Credit classes interest also up for Fall 2010 The parking lots and classrooms at Kirkwood Community College were notably busier again this summer. Officials at Kirkwood report an increase of more than 13 percent in college credit enrollments for the 2010 summer session. Official enrollment was marked at 7,990 credit students, an uptick of 960 people enrolled from the official count of summer 2009.

Expansion at Fareway: More room for groceries, frozen products

Fareway employees have been stocking the brand new upright freezers in the store today. Fareway employees were spending Thursday morning filling the new upright freezers along the east wall of the store, as the expansion of the store continues. "We have added 1,200 square feet," said manager Dave Kelchen.  In addition to the extra space for dry goods, the biggest change customers will notice is the expanded product line of frozen goods that the new freezers offers.

REC members receive patronage in form of discounted June bills

At its May meeting the East Central Iowa REC Cooperative’s Board of Directors voted to retire $500,000 in patronage back to its member-consumers. Patronage represents the margins, or profits that Cooperative has earned on its member-consumers purchased electricity in past years. These margins are the member-consumers contribution to the equity in East-Central Iowa REC.
